Auxiliary Battery Relay: Service and Repair






Parallel Battery Connection Relay (J581)

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

Torque Wrench (V.A.G 1331/)

Removal

- Disconnect batteries. Refer to => [ Battery, Disconnecting and Connecting ] Battery, Disconnecting and Connecting.

- Remove second battery in luggage compartment. Refer to => [ Second Battery or Auxiliary Battery in Luggage Compartment ] Second Battery or Auxiliary Battery in Luggage Compartment.

- Disconnect connector from parallel battery connection relay - arrow -.






- Remove nuts - arrows - and remove parallel battery connection relay upward from retainer.






- Remove nuts - arrows -.

- Remove the wires from the parallel battery connection relay.






Installation

Install in reverse order of removal. Note the following:

- Tighten the parallel battery connection relay nuts and the lines to the specification shown in => [ Fastener Tighten Specifications, Battery ] [1][2]Battery.

- Install battery in luggage compartment. Refer to => [ Second Battery or
Auxiliary Battery in Luggage Compartment, Connecting ] One-Battery Layout with Auxiliary Battery and Two Battery Layout, Disconnecting and Connecting.


When connecting battery, always perform work procedure as described in => [ Connecting Sequence ] One-Battery Layout with Auxiliary Battery and Two Battery Layout, Disconnecting and Connecting. Not adhering to sequence will result in the deactivation of Main Battery Switch -E74- and subsequent damage to electrical system components.

Observe notes for threaded connections of battery terminals. Refer to => [ Battery Post/Terminal ] Battery Post/Terminal.

- Connect battery. Refer to => [ Battery, Disconnecting and Connecting ] Battery, Disconnecting and Connecting.
