• Sliding Gauge
- Lubricate the torque converter hub and sealing lips on the converter seal with a drop of Automatic Transmission Fluid (ATF) (no more!).
- Slide the converter into the transmission until it stops.
- Rotate the converter and push it towards the transmission with light pressure.
The converter should slide noticeably farther into the transmission when the converter hub cutout slides into the pump gear coupling plate.
When replacing the torque converter, the outer sealing lips of the seal - arrow - can fold inward.
- Therefore, pull the converter back out of the transmission 5 mm.
This brings the sealing lips of the seal - arrow - into their correct position.
- Then slide the converter into the transmission until it stops.
The converter is installed correctly when the transmission can be positioned on the engine flange without using force.
- If that is not the case, the converter must be reinstalled. Then check the installed dimension.
Torque Converter Installed Dimension
• When the converter is installed correctly, the distance between the contact surfaces for the threaded holes on the converter and the transmission bell housing is at least 19 mm - a -.
- Ensure that the converter does not slip forward when the transmission is installed.
CAUTION!
If the engine and transmission are connected forcefully when the converter is installed incorrectly, damage to the transmission and converter results.
The converter is installed correctly when the transmission can be positioned on the engine flange without using force.
