Engine Control Module: Service and Repair
Engine Control Module (J623)
• If it is necessary to replace the Engine Control Module (ECM) , connect the vehicle diagnostic tester and perform "Replace control module".
Removing
- Turn off the ignition.
- Remove the E-box cover inside the engine compartment - arrows -.
with Anti-Theft Protection
- Remove the shear bolts - 2 -.
- Remove the bracket - 5 -.
- Disconnect the connectors - 1 and 3 - from the ECM.
If the ECM is being replaced:
- Remove the shear bolts - 6 - and the bracket - 4 -.
without Anti-Theft Protection
- Disconnect the connectors - 1 and 3 - from the ECM.
Continuation for All
- Push the tabs on the side guides - 3 - carefully toward the outside with a screwdriver - 2 -.
- Remove the ECM - 1 - from the guides - 3 -.
Installing
- Install the ECM - 1 - into the guides - 3 - until it locks.
with Anti-Theft Protection
- Install the bracket - 4 - to the ECM with new shear bolts - 6 -.
- Tighten the shear bolts - 6 - just enough until the bolt heads breaks off.
- Connect the connectors - 1 and 3 - to the ECM.
- Install the bracket - 5 - to the ECM with new shear bolts - 2 -.
- Tighten the shear bolts - 2 - just enough until the bolt heads breaks off.
without Anti-Theft Protection
- Connect the connectors - 1 and 3 - to the ECM.
