Front Seat







Front Seat

The following describes removing and installing the left seat. Removing and installing the right seat is identical.

The following describes removing and installing a manual seat. Removing and installing a power seat is identical.

Removing

The general safety precautions for working on airbag, belt tensioner and battery cut-out units (pyrotechnic components) must be observed. - Move the seat as far forward as possible using the forward/back adjuster.

- Remove the bolts - 3 - and - 4 -.

- Move the seat as far back as possible using the forward/back adjuster.

- Disconnect the battery.

- Remove the bolts - 1 - and - 2 -.

- Remove the cap/carpet from the coupling station.

Electrostatic discharges can lead to unintended deployment of the airbag. Therefore, mechanic must electrostatic discharge him-/herself before disconnecting harness connector. This is done, for example, by briefly grasping the chassis or door striker.

- Depending on the vehicle equipment level, disconnect the wiring harnesses from the seat at the coupling station.






- Connect the airbag adapter (VAS 6281) to the side airbag wiring harness - 1 -.

The Airbag Adapter (VAS 6281) must stay connected to seat until seat is installed again.

If seat is to be lifted out or transported out of the vehicle, it must not be grasped by the attachments, for example, seat belt latch, lever for seat fore/aft adjustment, lever for seat height adjustment or seat trim panels in order to prevent damage.

- Reach between the backrest and seat cushion with the right hand. Grab the front of the seat cushion with the left hand and lift the seat out of the vehicle.

Installing






- Lift seat through the front door and into the vehicle.

- Insert seat into corresponding holes in floor via the centering pins on the tunnel side.

- Tighten the bolt - 1 - (40 Nm).

- Tighten the bolt - 2 - (40 Nm).

When installing seat, if a thread in mounting plate of seat crossmember was damaged, a reworking of the damaged thread is forbidden. In this case, mounting plate of seat crossmember must be replaced.

If there is damage to threads in mounting plate of seat crossmember:

- Replace the seat crossmember mounting plate.

- Remove the airbag adapter (VAS 6281).

- Attach the side airbag wiring harness to the connector station.

- Depending on the vehicle equipment level, attach the remaining wiring harnesses in the coupling station.

- Install the cap/carpet from the coupling station.

- Turn on the ignition.

Make sure no one is in the vehicle.

- Connect the battery.

- Move the seat as far forward as possible using the forward/back adjuster.

- Tighten the bolt - 3 - (40 Nm).

- Tighten the bolt - 4 - (40 Nm).

When installing seat, if a thread in mounting plate of seat crossmember was damaged, a reworking of the damaged thread is forbidden. In this case, mounting plate of seat crossmember must be replaced.

If there is damage to threads in mounting plate of seat crossmember:

- Replace the seat crossmember mounting plate.
