Selector Lever Cable, Adjusting

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

Torque Wrench (5-50 Nm) (V.A.G 1331)

The selector mechanism and selector lever cable move easily when shifting.

The selector lever cable boot is undamaged.

Selector lever cable must always be adjusted if:

The selector lever cable was removed from the transmission.

The engine and/or transmission were removed and installed.

Parts of engine/transmission mounts were removed and installed.

The selector lever cable and the selector mechanism were removed and installed.

Engine/transmission positions changed, for example, were installed free of tension.

Procedure:

- Move the selector lever into the "P" position.

The adjustment bolt - 2 - must be loosened.






- Move the selector shaft lever - 3 - on the transmission into the "P" position (push the lever to the rear).

Make sure the parking lock is latched.

Make sure the transmission is in the "P" position (parking lock is engaged) if raising the vehicle. It must not be possible to turn the front wheels.

- Lightly tap the handle button forward and backward and make sure to keep the handle in the "P" position.

This places the selector lever cable core in its optimal position.

- Tighten the adjustment bolt - 2 - to 13 Nm.
