Clean Working Conditions

Clean Working Conditions

If the mechanical damage is found on the exhaust turbocharger, for example a destroyed compression wheel, it is not enough to just replace the turbocharger. To prevent subsequent damage, the following work must be performed:

Check the air filter housing, the air filter element and the intake hoses for contamination.

Check the entire charge air circuit and charge air cooler for foreign objects.

If contaminants are found in the charge air circuit, the circuit must be cleaned and cooler replaced if necessary.

When working on the fuel supply/injection system, pay careful attention to the following rules of cleanliness:

Thoroughly clean all connections and the surrounding area, for example, with a brake clean, before disconnecting.

Place removed parts on a clean surface and cover them using lint free cloths.

Carefully cover or seal opened components, if repairs are not performed immediately.

Only install clean components: Remove the replacement parts from their packaging just prior to installing them. Do not use parts that have been stored loose (for example, in a tool box, etc.).

When the system is open: Do not work with compressed air. Do not move the vehicle.

In addition, do not allow diesel fuel to drip onto coolant hoses. If necessary, the hoses must be cleaned immediately. Replace any corroded hoses.
