Fuel Rail and Injector Overview
Fuel Rail and Injector Overview
After the high pressure line assembly, and when installing a new short block, it is particularly important to tighten the fuel injector tensioning bracket to the tightening specification. Only tighten the tensioning bracket bolt hand tight after installation when assembling the high pressure line in order to align the fuel injector. Engine damage may occur if not observed.
1 Seal
• In the cylinder head cover.
• Removing and installing, refer to => [ Fuel Injector Seal ] Fuel Injector Seal.
2 Copper Washer
• Always replace.
3 O-ring
• Always replace.
4 Fuel Injector
• The following components, seals and O-rings must be replaced each time a fuel injector is removed, and installed or replaced: "copper washer", "O-ring for the fuel injector shaft" and the "O-ring for the fuel injector return".
• The following components and seals and/or O-rings must be replaced whenever a fuel injector is replaced: "tensioning bracket" "copper washer" "fuel injector shaft O-ring" "fuel injector return O-ring".
• Before reusing the high pressure line, check the sealing cones for damage such as scratches or corrosion. Replace if damaged.
• If any fuel injector, high pressure line and tensioning bracket, which were removed, are being reinstalled, then they must be installed to the same cylinder.
• Removing and installing, refer to => [ Fuel Injectors ] Fuel Injectors.
5 O-ring
• Always replace.
6 Fuel Return Line
• To the fuel tank.
• Must not be bent, damaged or plugged.
• Do not disassemble.
• Run the engine at idle for approximately two minutes after replacing to bleed the fuel system and then check the fuel return lines for leaks.
7 Bolt
• 8 Nm + an additional 180° (1/2) turn.
• Always replace.
8 Tensioning Bracket
• Injectors and tensioning brackets which have been removed and are being reinstalled, may only be reinstalled back to the same cylinder.
• If the fuel injector is being replaced, then the tensioning bracket must also be replaced.
• Installed position, refer to => [ Installed Position of the Tensioning Bracket ].
9 High Pressure Line
• 28 Nm
• Between the fuel rail and the fuel injectors.
• When reusing the high pressure line again, pay attention to the cylinder marks.
• The high pressure line can be reused only after the following checks:
• Check the sealing cone on each high pressure line for deformation and cracks.
• The bores for the lines must not be deformed, narrowed or damaged.
• Do not reuse corroded lines again.
• Install without tension.
10 Bolt
• 22 Nm
11 Fuel Rail (High Pressure Reservoir)
• Removing and installing, refer to => [ Fuel Rail ] Fuel Rail.
12 Fuel Return Hose
13 Fuel Pressure Regulator Valve (N276)
• 80 Nm
• Always replace if removed.
• Removing and installing, refer to => [ Fuel Pressure Regulator Valve N276 ] Service and Repair.
14 O-ring
• Always replace.
15 High Pressure Line
• 28 Nm
• Between the high pressure pump and the fuel rail.
• When reusing the high pressure line again, pay attention to the cylinder marks.
• The high pressure line can be reused only after the following checks:
• Check the sealing cone on the high pressure line for deformation and cracks.
• The bores for the line must not be deformed, narrowed or damaged.
• Do not reuse a corroded line again.
16 Bolt
• 8 Nm
17 Fuel Pressure Sensor (G247)
• 100 Nm
• Always replace if removed.
• Removing and installing, refer to => [ Fuel Pressure Sensor G247 ] Service and Repair.
18 Grommet
• In the cylinder head cover.
• Removing and installing, refer to => [ Fuel Injector Seal ] Fuel Injector Seal.
Installed Position of the Tensioning Bracket
• A tensioning bracket touches 2 fuel injectors respectively.
• The tensioning bracket thickening - arrow - faces downward.
