Air Bag Control Module: Service and Repair
Airbag Control Module
When working on the airbag control module (J234) , follow the general safety precautions for working on airbag, belt tensioner and battery cut-out units (pyrotechnic components), refer to => [ Pyrotechnic Components Safety Precautions ] Service Precautions.
Removing
- Disconnect the battery.
- Remove the bolt - 1 - (1.5 Nm).
- Remove the trim - 2 - from the center console in - direction of arrow -.
• The other parts of the center console do not need to be removed.
- Remove the nuts - 2 - (2.5 Nm).
- Remove the bracket - 1 - from the center tunnel.
- Remove the trim panel and bracket on the right side of the vehicle.
• Removing the right trim and the right bracket is identical.
- Open the locking mechanism - 2 - on the connector in - direction of arrow - and remove the wiring harness from the control module - 1 -.
• The control module is shown in the illustration without the other components around it.
- Remove the nuts - 1 - (9 Nm).
- Remove the control module - 2 - from the center tunnel.
Installation
- Install in reverse order of removal.
- Turn on the ignition.
Make sure no one is in the vehicle.
- Connect the battery.
- Code the airbag control module (J234) if it was replaced.
Components, Adapting
• Vehicle Diagnosis, Testing and Information System (VAS 5051B)
• Diagnostic cable (VAS 5051/1) or (VAS 5051/3)
Select "Guided Fault Finding" in the Vehicle Diagnosis, Testing and Information System (VAS 5051B).
After all control modules have been interrogated:
- Press "Go to" button
- Select "function/component selection".
- Select "Body".
- "Body Repairs"
- Select "01 - On board diagnostic-capable systems".
- Select "Airbag".
- Select "Functions".
- Select "Action".
