Left Flange Shaft and Seal
Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required
• Slide Hammer- Complete Set (VW 771)
• Additional Part for VW 771 (VW 771/37)
• Thrust Piece (3305)
• Torque Wrench (5-50 Nm) (V.A.G 1331)
• Torque Wrench (40-200 Nm) (V.A.G 1332)
• Used Oil Collecting and Extracting Device (V.A.G 1782)
• Sealing Grease for Seal (G 052 128 A1)
Removing
• General repair instructions, refer to => [ General Repair Information ] Description and Operation.
- Remove the left wheel.
- Remove the noise insulation.
- Remove the left front wheel housing liner..
- Remove the left drive axle.
- Place the used oil collecting and extracting device (V.A.G 1782) or a drip tray under the transmission.
- Remove left flange shaft countersunk bolt by installing 2 bolts in the flange and counter holding the flange shaft with a pry bar.
- Remove the flange shaft together with the spring, thrust washer and tapered ring.
- Pull out the flange shaft seal using the slide hammer - complete set (VW 771) and the additional part for VW 771 (VW 771/37).
Installing
Install in the reverse order of removal. Note the following:
- Lightly oil the new seal on the outer circumference.
- Fill the area between the sealing and dust lips - arrow - halfway with sealing grease for seal (G 052 128).
- Install the seal all the way in without tilting it using the thrust piece (3305).
• Replace the flange shaft countersunk bolt.
• Press the flange shaft against the transmission so that the bolt and the threaded piece in the differential touches.
- Insert the flange shaft and secure it with a new bolt.
• Tightening specification, see - item 9 - in the => [ Seal Component Location Overview ] Service and Repair.
- Install the left drive axle.
- Install left front wheel housing liner..
- Install the left wheel.
- Check the oil level and fill as necessary. Refer to => [ DSG(R) Oil Level, Checking ] DSG(R) Oil Level, Checking.
- Install the noise insulation.
