Ignition Coil: Service and Repair
Ignition Coils with Power Output Stages
Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required
• Ignition Coil Puller (T40039)
Removing
- Remove the air filter (engine cover). Refer to => [ Air Filter and Engine Cover ] Air Filter and Engine Cover.
- Disconnect the connector from the secondary air injection solenoid valve (N112) - arrow -, if equipped.
In order to prevent damage to the wire guide, remove the ignition coils with power output stage as follows:
- Using the ignition coil puller (T40039) , pull all ignition coils only approximately 10 mm out of the spark plug shaft, starting with ignition coil - 1 -.
- Then, pull out all ignition coils an additional 10 mm in the same sequence.
- Disconnect all connectors.
- After that, pull off all connectors - A -, starting at ignition coil - 1 -, and remove the ignition coils from the spark plug shafts.
Installing
• The ignition coils with power output stages must be greased with special lubricant (G 052 141 A2) to install new spark plugs. This prevents the sealing hose on the ignition coil from sticking on the spark plug. The lubricant must spread onto the spark pug when installing the ignition coil.
• New ignition coils with power output stages are already greased when delivered.
- Apply a thin bead of special lubricant (G 052 141 A2) around the ignition sealing hose - arrow -. The bead must be 1 to 2 mm thick.
- Install all the ignition coils loosely into the spark plug shaft.
- Align the ignition coils in the openings in the cylinder head cover and then connect all the connectors in reverse order.
- Press the ignition coils evenly onto the spark plugs by hand.
