Oil Pan/Oil Pump Overview

If large quantities of metal particles or abraded material are detected during engine repairs, it may mean the crankshaft or connecting rod bearings are damaged. Perform the following procedure after the repair to prevent subsequent damage.

Clean the oil passages carefully.

Replace the oil spray jets.

Replace the engine oil cooler.

Replace the oil filter element.

The oil level must not go above the MAX mark - danger of causing damage to the catalytic converter! For the marks, refer to => [ Engine Oil ] Description and Operation.






1 Bolt

6 Nm

To the intake manifold.

2 Guide Tube

For the oil dipstick.

Secured by the bolt (- item 1 -) to intake manifold.

3 Cylinder Block

Cover and sealing flange overview. Refer to => [ Sealing Flange, Transmission Side ] Service and Repair.

Crankshaft overview. Refer to => [ Crankshaft Overview ] Crankshaft Overview.

Piston and connecting rod overview. Refer to => [ Pistons and Connecting Rod Overview ] Pistons and Connecting Rod Overview.

4 O-ring

Always replace.

Coat with oil before installing.

5 Oil Pump

To remove the oil pump, the engine must be removed.

Removing and installing, refer to => [ Oil Pump ] Oil Pump.

6 Chain Sprocket

For the timing chains.

Removing and installing, refer to => [ Camshaft Adjuster ] Camshaft Adjuster.

Installing the camshaft adjusters, refer to => [ Camshaft Adjuster ] Camshaft Adjuster.

7 Bolt

60 Nm + an additional 90° (1/4) turn.

Always replace.

8 Bolt

8 Nm

Install using liquid locking fluid.

9 Seal

Always replace.

Coat with oil before installing.

10 Oil Spray Jet

For crankshaft bearings 2 through 7.

For piston cooling.

Opening pressure: 2.0 bar pressure.

Removing and installing, refer to => [ Oil Spray Jet ] Service and Repair.

11 Seal

Replace if damaged.

Coat with oil before installing.

12 Oil Suction Pipe

Clean the screen if it is dirty.

13 Bolt

8 Nm

Install using liquid locking fluid.

14 Oil Pipe

15 Bolt

8 Nm

Install using liquid locking fluid.

16 Baffle Plate

17 Oil Drain Plug

30 Nm

Always replace.

With a permanent seal.

18 Oil Pan

Clean the sealing surface before installing.

Install using silicone adhesive sealant (D 176 501 A1).

19 Oil Level Thermal Sensor (G266)

Checking

23 Oil Filter Housing

25 Oil Pressure Switch

Checking, refer to => [ Oil Pressure and Oil Pressure Switch, Checking ] Testing and Inspection.

26 Seal

Always replace.

Coat with oil before installing.

27 Seal

Always replace.

Coat with oil before installing.
