Engine and Transmission, Separating

Conditions

The engine/transmission assembly is removed and secured to the engine support (T10359).

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

Spring Type Clip Pliers (VAS 6499)

Shop Crane - Load Cap = 700-1200 KG (VAS 6100)

Socket, Multipoint Bit XZN 14 (T10061)

Insert Tool 18 mm (T10179)

Hose Clamps Up to 25 mm Dia. (3094)

Engine Bung Set (VAS 6122)

Separating

- Clamp off the coolant hoses at the transmission oil cooler using the hose clamps up to 25 mm dia. (3094) and remove the hoses from the transmission oil cooler.






- Seal the transmission oil cooler connections with plugs from engine bung set (VAS 6122).

- Remove the starter - A -.






Remove the lower bolt first.

- Turn the lock on the Mechatronic unit connector - 1 - counterclockwise and disconnect the connector.

- Loosen all the upper engine/transmission bolts. Insert tool 18 mm (T10179) can be used for this.






The illustration shows the engine and transmission installed.

There is a bolt - arrow - located inside the hole for the starter. Use the socket, multipoint bit XZN 14 (T10061) to remove this bolt.






- Support the transmission with the shop crane - load cap = 700-1200 KG (VAS 6100) before removing the last bolts.

- Remove the lower engine/transmission bolts.

- Separate the transmission from the engine; when doing this, guide the transmission.

- Remove the remaining engine/transmission bolts.

Connecting

Assemble in the reverse order of removal. Pay attention to the tightening specifications.
