DTC 2-1-4
2-1-4 ENGINE SPEED SENSOR SIGNAL, INTERMITTENTTrouble Code Conditions
If engine speed exceeds 810 rpm, and the Engine Control Module (ECM) counts two teeth too many or too few on the carrier plate/flywheel during one revolution of the crankshaft, Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) 2-1-4 is set.
Substitute value(s)
- None.
Fault source(s)
- Loose connection or frayed wiring.
- Wiring insulation damaged.
- Contact resistance in connections.
- Damage to carrier plate/flywheel.
- Defective Engine Speed (RPM) Sensor.
Fault symptom(s)
- Engine running rough.
TEST PROCEDURE
CHECK LEADS AND CONNECTIONS
- Check RPM sensor and ECM connector for loose connection, as well as contact resistance and oxidation.
- Check leads between ECM and RPM sensor for intermittent break, intermittent short circuit to ground, as well as intermittent short circuit to live.
For fault-free leads and connections:
^ Check carrier-plate/flywheel through RPM sensor aperture for damage or scratches.
If no fault detected on carrier-plate/flywheel:
^ Test with new RPM sensor.
NOTE: Check Diagnostic Test Mode (DTM) 1 for automatic transmission if DTC for RPM signal is triggered.
