DTC 2-3-3
2-3-3 LONG TERM IDLE AIR TRIMTrouble Code Conditions
If idle air trim is allowed to raise or lower air mass flow through the valve too much to maintain even idle, Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) 2-3-3 is set.
Substitute value(s)
- None.
Fault source(s)
- Blocked air filter or air intake.
- Contact resistance in connectors.
- Air leakage.
- Incorrectly adjusted throttle.
- Defective Idle Air Control (IAC) valve.
Fault symptom(s)
- Idle too high or too low.
TEST PROCEDURE
LIMIT EXCEEDED
Check adaption value
- Start engine.
- Enter DTC parameter list.
- Read off idle adaption value.
If value higher than + 15
^ Check air filter and air intake. Proceed to CHECK AIR FILTER AND AIR INTAKE section below.
If value lower than - 15
^ Check for air leakage. Proceed to CHECK AIR LEAKAGE section below.
CHECK AIR FILTER AND AIR INTAKE
- Ignition off.
- Check for blockage in air intake, air filter, hoses and pipes between air filter and Throttle Body (TB).
- Also check IAC valve connections.
If fault-free:
^ Check throttle angle. Proceed to CHECK THROTTLE ANGLE section below.
If blocked:
^ Fix as necessary.
^ Erase DTCs.
CHECK THROTTLE ANGLE
- Start engine.
- Enter DTC parameter list.
- Read off value of throttle angle.
Value should be 9.5° - 11.5° at Closed Throttle Position (CTP).
If values OK:
^ Check IAC valve. Proceed to CHECK IAC VALVE section below.
If values differ:
^ Adjust TB and pulley.
^ Erase DTCs.
CHECK AIR LEAKAGE
- Check for air leakage.
If no air leakage detected:
^ Check IAC valve. Proceed to CHECK IAC VALVE section below.
If air leakage detected:
^ Fix as necessary.
^ Erase DTCs.
CHECK IAC VALVE
- Ignition off.
- Disconnect IAC valve.
- Connect an ohmmeter between IAC valve pins 1 and 3.
Ohmmeter should read approx. 26 ohms at + 20° C.
If values OK.
^ Check IAC valve control slide. Proceed to CHECK IAC CONTROL SLIDE section below.
If values differ.
^ Test with a new IAC valve.
^ Erase DTCs.
CHECK IAC CONTROL SLIDE
- Ignition off.
- Demount IAC valve.
- Hold valve at connector. Turn valve quickly but carefully back and forth. Listen for the sound of the slide striking.
Note: The slide should never be touched by a screwdriver or other tool, as this may scratch or damage the slide.
If IAC valve slide strikes:
^ Check IAC valve and ECM connector for contact resistance and oxidation.
If valve slide does not strike:
^ Test with a new IAC valve.
^ Erase DTCs.
