SIGNAL MISSING
1. Connecting the test box
- Preparation:
Ignition OFF
- Connect the test box and check ground terminals. Connecting the Test Box
- Then continue with step 2

2. Checking signal cables for a short-circuit to supply voltage
- Preparation:
Ignition OFF
Transmission control module (TCM) connected
Ignition ON
- Connect an test light (bulb at least 3 watts) between #20 (A#20) and: #32 (#B2) TC1 #33 (#B3) TC2 #34 (#fB4) TCM on the test box
- The bulb should not light.
- If the lamp lights there is probably a short-circuit to supply voltage in the circuit.
- Is the test light bulb out?
YES: Proceed to step 4
NO: Proceed to step 3

3. Checking for a short-circuit
- Check cables between TCM: #B2 and Engine Control Module (ECM) #B2 #B3 and ECM #B3 #B4 and ECM #B4 for a short-circuit to supply voltage according to step 4 of checking for permanent faults. Checking For Permanent Faults
- Then continue with step 10

4. Checking signal cables for resistance to ground
- Preparation:
- Ignition OFF
- Disconnect the TCM and ECM (EZ129K, Fenix 5.2, Motronic 4.3 or Motronic 4.4).
- Connect an ohmmeter between test box #20 (#A20) and
#32 (#B2) TC1
#33 (#B3) TC2
#34 (#B4) TCM
- The ohmmeter should read infinite resistance.
- If reading is OK:
Proceed to step 6
- If reading is incorrect:
Proceed to step 5

5. Checking for a short-circuit
- Check cables between TCM:
#B2 and ECM #B2
#B3 and ECM #B3
#B4 and ECM #B4
- for a short-circuit to ground according to step 3 of checking for permanent faults. Checking For Permanent Faults
- Then continue with step 10

6. Checking signal cable TC1, TC2
- Preparation:
Ignition OFF
Disconnect test box from automatic TCM.
Connect test box to ECM, refer to Powertrain Management.
Ignition ON
Move gear selector to position P.
Connect a voltmeter between ground and:
- EZ129K ECM
#32 (#B2) TC1
#33 (#B3) TC2
- Fenix 5.2, Motronic 4.3 or Motronic 4.4 ECM
#2 (#B2) TC1
#3 (#B3) TC2
- Activate TC1/TC2.
- The voltmeter reading should oscillate between:
EZ129K ECM:
Approx. 0 and 5 volts
Fenix 5.2, Motronic 4.3 and 4.4 ECM:
Approx. 0 and 0-2 volts below battery voltage.
- Oscillation is rapid, approx. 1 second.
- Does the reading oscillate?
YES: Proceed to step 8
NO: Proceed to step 7

7. Checking for an open-circuit
- Check cables between TCM and:
#B2 and ECM #B2
#B3 and ECM #B3
#B4 and ECM #B4
- for an open-circuit according to step 2 of checking for permanent faults. Checking For Permanent Faults
- Then continue with step 10

8. Checking signal cable TCM
- Preparation:
Ignition ON
Move gear selector to position P.
- Activate torque limiting TC1/TC2
- Read off TCM status.
- The status should alternate between NO/YES.
- Does the status alternate between OFF/ON?
YES: Proceed to step 13
NO: Proceed to step 9

9. Checking for an open-circuit
- Check the cable between TCM #B4 and ECM #B4 for an open-circuit according to step 2 of checking for permanent faults. Checking For Permanent Faults
- Then continue with step 10

10. Verification
- After repairs have been completed they must be verified as follows to ensure that the fault has been eliminated:
- Preparation:
Ignition OFF
Reconnect connectors, reinstall components etc.
Test box connected to ECM
Control modules connected
Ignition ON
Move gear selector to position P.
- Connect a voltmeter between ground and test box terminals:
For EZ129K ECM:
#32 (#B2) TC1
#33 (#B3) TC2
For Fenix 5.2, Motronic 4.3 or Motronic 4.4 ECM:
#2 (#B2) TC1
#3 (#B3) TC2
- Activate torque limiting TC1, TC2.
- The voltmeter reading should rapidly oscillate down to approx. 0 volts when the signal is activated (this oscillation is rapid, approx. 1 second).
- Does the signal oscillate?
YES: Proceed to step 11
NO: Proceed to step 12

11. Verification, continuation
- After repairs have been completed they must be verified as follows to ensure that the fault has been eliminated:
Ignition OFF
- Reconnect connectors, reinstall components etc.
Ignition on.
Move gear selector to position P.
- Activate torque limiting TC1, TC2.
- Read off torque limiting confirmation TCM status.
- The status should alternate between NO/YES.
- Does the status alternate between OFF/ON?
YES: Fault corrected
NO: Proceed to step 12
12. Fault-tracing information
- The verification result shows that the fault persists.
- Do you want to exit fault-tracing?
YES: Fault not corrected
NO: Proceed to step 2

13. Intermittent fault
- Preparation:
