Intake System, Checking For Leaks (unmetered Air)

Special tools, equipment and other items required







- VAS 5051 with VAS 5051/1
- Engine leak detector spray G 001 800 A1

NOTE:
- Due to the vacuum in the intake system, the leak detector spray is drawn in with the unmetered air. The spray reduces the ignition performance of the mixture, thus causing a drop in engine speed and a sharp increase in CO content.
- Always observe the safety instructions on the can.

Work sequence
- Connect vehicle diagnostic, testing and information system VAS 5051 and select vehicle system "01 - Engine electronics" from list. Engine must be idling. Connecting VAS 5051 Scan Tool

Indicated on VAS 5051:







- From list -1- select diagnostic function "08 - Reading measured value block".

Indicated on VAS 5051:







1 Enter display group
- Use keypad -2- to enter "001" for "Display group number 001" and confirm by touching Q key.

Indicated on VAS 5051:







- Note engine speed in display zone -1-.
- Systematically apply engine leak detector spray to intake system components.

If engine speed decreases:
- Check sprayed section of intake system for leaks and correct fault.
- Terminate function "08 - Reading measured value block" by touching <- key.

Indicated on VAS 5051:







- From list -1- select diagnostic function "06 - End of output".
- Switch off ignition.
