Exhaust System Component Overview





1 23 Nm

2 Suspended mount

Replace if damaged

3 Center muffler

Original equipment as one unit with rear muffler. For repairs, replace each separately.

Separating point => [ Cut exhaust pipe using at right angle at separating point. ] Service and Repair

Install exhaust system free of stress, refer to => [ Exhaust System, Aligning ] Procedures

4 27 Nm

Replace

5 Exhaust manifold

For cylinder bank 1 (right)

Removing and installing, refer to => [ Right Exhaust Manifold ] Right Exhaust Manifold

6 Gasket

Replace

7 Heated Oxygen Sensor (HO2S) (G39)

For cylinder bank 1 (right)

The threads of new oxygen sensors are coated with assembly paste; the paste must not get into slots of oxygen sensor body

When re-using the old oxygen sensor, grease the threads with hot bolt paste; the paste must not get into slots of oxygen sensor body; hot bolt paste.

Removing and installing, refer to => Fuel Delivery and Air Induction Fuel Delivery and Air Induction

Tighten to 55 Nm

8 Heated Oxygen Sensor (HO2S) 2 (G108)

For cylinder bank 2 (left)

The threads of new oxygen sensors are coated with assembly paste; the paste must not get into slots of oxygen sensor body

When re-using the old oxygen sensor, grease the threads with hot bolt paste; the paste must not get into slots of oxygen sensor body; hot bolt paste.

Removing and installing, refer to => Fuel Delivery and Air Induction Fuel Delivery and Air Induction

Tighten to 55 Nm

9 Exhaust manifold

Cylinder bank 2 (left)

Removing and installing, refer to => [ Left Exhaust Manifold ] Left Exhaust Manifold

10 Gasket

Replace

12 Oxygen Sensor (O2S) 2 Behind Three Way Catalytic Converter (TWC) (G131)

For cylinder bank 2 (left)

The threads of new oxygen sensors are coated with assembly paste; the paste must not get into slots of oxygen sensor body

When re-using the old oxygen sensor, grease the threads with hot bolt paste; the paste must not get into slots of oxygen sensor body; hot bolt paste.

Removing and installing, refer to => Fuel Delivery and Air Induction Fuel Delivery and Air Induction

Tighten to 55 Nm

13 Front exhaust pipe with catalytic converter

For cylinder bank 2 (left)

With decoupling element, decoupling element must not be bent more than 10° - otherwise it may be damaged

Protect from shocks and impact stress

Install exhaust system free of stress => [ Exhaust System, Aligning ] Procedures

with 01V automatic transmission ]

14 Front clamping sleeve

Before tightening, align exhaust system tension-free, refer to => [ Exhaust System, Aligning ] Procedures

Installed location => [ Installation position of front double clamps ]

Tighten threaded connections evenly.

15 40 Nm

16 Oxygen Sensor (O2S) Behind Three Way Catalytic Converter (TWC) (G130)

For cylinder bank 1 (right)

The threads of new oxygen sensors are coated with assembly paste; the paste must not get into slots of oxygen sensor body

When re-using the old oxygen sensor, grease the threads with hot bolt paste; the paste must not get into slots of oxygen sensor body; hot bolt paste.

Removing and installing, refer to => Fuel Delivery and Air Induction Fuel Delivery and Air Induction

Tighten to 55 Nm

17 Front exhaust pipe with catalytic converter

For cylinder bank 1 (right)

With decoupling element, decoupling element must not be bent more than 10° - otherwise it may be damaged

18 Rear muffler

for left side of vehicle

Original equipment as one unit with center muffler. For repairs, replace each separately.

19 Suspended mount

24 Rear clamping sleeve

For individual replacement of center and rear mufflers

Before tightening, align exhaust system tension-free, refer to => [ Exhaust System, Aligning ] Procedures

Installed location => [ Installation position of rear double clamps ]

Tighten threaded connections evenly.

Installation position of front double clamps





- When installing the double clamps, ensure that the bolt ends do not project beyond the lower edge of the double clamp.

Threaded connections face each other.

- When installing the double clamps, ensure that the bolt ends do not project beyond the lower edge of the double clamp.

Threaded connections point toward outside.
