Evaporator
Refrigerant Circuit
Evaporator
• Beginning with MY 2008 a 3 x 3 mm, 65 mm long foam strip - C - is being installed in the left and right tongue and groove joint between the housing lower section - A - and the evaporator cover - B -. The foam strips - C - prevent moisture from getting into the A/C unit.
Removing
- Drain the refrigerant circuit.
- Remove cover with recirculation door. Refer to => [ Cover with Recirculated Air Door ] Removal and Replacement.
- Remove the Fresh Air Blower (V2). Refer to => [ Fresh Air Blower ] Service and Repair.
- Remove bolts - A -.
- Remove bolt - C - and remove appropriate bracket for refrigerant pipes.
- Remove bolt - B - together with bracket for refrigerant pipes.
- Remove evaporator cover - D -.
- Disconnect refrigerant lines from evaporator connection. Refer to => [ Refrigerant Lines, Disconnecting and Connecting from Evaporator ]. Refrigerant Lines, Disconnecting and Connecting From Evaporator
• On right-hand drive vehicles, remove connector station for plenum chamber E-box if necessary.
- Remove bolts - A -.
- Remove connecting pipe - B -.
- Remove evaporator.
Installing
Installation is carried out in the reverse order, when doing this note the following:
Before installing evaporator:review Refrigerant Servicing.
- Before installing evaporator, check holes - A - of condensate drain for dirt, clean if necessary.
- Replace O-rings - C - and - D - between connecting pipe in A/C unit - B - and to evaporator - E -, version. .
• Coat O-ring seals lightly with refrigerant oil before installing. Refer to => [ Refrigerant Circuit O-Ring Seals ] Refrigerant Circuit O-Ring Seals.
- Install bolts - A - (tightening torque 5 Nm).
• Make sure O-rings - C - and - D - are seated properly in groove in connecting pipes to evaporator - E -.
• Make sure the grommet - B - is seated on the A/C unit and the evaporator connecting piece - A - correctly.
• The removed evaporator contains refrigerant oil which must be restored to the refrigerant circuit. => Refrigerant R134a - Servicing

• When installing the evaporator cover, apply - B - a 3 x 3 mm, 65 mm long foam strip - C - into the left and right tongue and groove joint between the housing lower section - A - and the evaporator cover - B - or seal this area with adhesive sealant, for example , Silicone Adhesive Sealant (D 176 001 A3). .
- Re-install remaining components removed.
- Evacuate and re-charge refrigerant circuit.
- Operate the A/C system after filling the refrigerant circuit. Refer to=> [ Operating A/C System after Filling Refrigerant Circuit ] Operating A/C System after Filling Refrigerant Circuit
• Note the information regarding operating the A/C system after filling.
