Cylinder Head Assembly: Testing and Inspection
11 12 729 - Checking cylinder head for leaks (N73)
Special tools required:
- 11 9 430 11 9 430 Fixture
- 11 9 432 11 9 430 Fixture
Necessary preliminary tasks:
- Remove left cylinder head Removing and Installing Left Cylinder Head (N73).
- Remove right cylinder head Removing and Installing Right Cylinder Head (N73).
- Remove left bearing bracket Removing and Installing/Replacing Left Intermediate Levers (N73) with inlet camshaft and intermediate shaft.
- Remove right bearing bracket Removing and Installing/Replacing Right Intermediate Levers (N73) with inlet camshaft and intermediate shaft.
- Remove left exhaust camshaft Removing and Installing/Replacing Left Exhaust Camshaft.
- Remove right exhaust camshaft Removing and Installing/Replacing Right Exhaust Camshaft.
- Remove all valves Service and Repair.
Place special tool 11 9 430 11 9 430 Fixture on cylinder head sealing faces.
To secure special tool 11 9 430 11 9 430 Fixture, secure with the old cylinder head bolts and the supplied nuts.
Remove vent fitting on cylinder head.
Screw in special tool 11 9 432 11 9 430 Fixture.
Connect pressure hose to pressure gauge.
Test pressure: 4.5 bar.
Immerse cylinder head in a water bath.
Check cylinder head for escaping air (cracks).
Note:
If necessary, add cleaning agent to water bath.
Note:
Replace cylinder head in event of cracking in water or oil area.
Assemble engine in reverse sequence to its disassembly.
