Test J: DTC 61 Set:
OPERATION:
The DERM controls two switches to ground; force low and indicator control. Force low is turned on during initial test as part of Resistance Test. Indicator control turns the indicator bulb on as part of Bulb Test or to indicate a fault. Both of these switches are smart," that is, they can tell when their output is not what it should be. For example indicator control should see battery voltage with ignition switch at RUN and switch is open (through the bulb). If It does not, there must be a ground or open in 358 wire or an open in 39 circuit.
POSSIBLE CAUSES:
Force Low Circuit - Open in 688 wire or defective resistor module. Note that there are other conditions that could be detected by the smart switch, but they register as different codes since they are detected by other DERM circuitry.
Indicator control - Open, short to ground, or short to battery in 358 circuit, blown indicator bulb or open in 39 circuit. Note that these conditions keep the bulb from working correctly.
