Test A1, Lamp Comes on Steady

Diagnosis A: Inflatable Restraint Indicator Malfunction:

Test A1: Indicator Comes On Steady:

OPERATION:
When ignition switch is turned to RUN, voltage is applied to DERM terminals A3, B3 and B9. The INFLATABLE RESTRAINT indicator blinks 7 to 9 times (1 second on, 1 second off).

When ignition switch is turned to START, voltage is supplied to DERM terminal B10. The DERM then grounds terminal A1, causing INFLATABLE RESTRAINT indicator to light until voltage Is removed from "CRANK" input (terminal B10).

When ignition switch is released, the DERM blinks the indicator another 7 to 8 times. If no diagnostic trouble codes are set and system is OK, indicator goes off.

A shorting bar in the DERM harness connector grounds DERM terminal A1 when the DERM is disconnected. This turns on the indicator. The DERM connector on J 37808 tool opens the bar when connected to DERM harness connector.

POSSIBLE CAUSES:
Test A1: Indicator Comes On Steady:
^ I/P fuse block AIRBAG fuse 7.
^ No voltage at DERM terminals A3 and B3.
^ Poor contact at DERM connector, allowing shorting bar to turn on Indicator.
^ Short to ground In 358 wire.
^ Defective dual sensor.
