Installation Procedure
Notice: Modifications made to the engine or its individual components can effect the vehicle's emission controls and may cause the Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL), Check Engine, or Service Engine Soon lamp to illuminate. Modifications may also cause the vehicle to fail a required Emission Inspection/Maintenance test.
1. Install a new left (front) cylinder head gasket.
2. Install the left (front) cylinder head over the locator pins and over the gasket.
Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.
Notice: This component uses torque-to-yield bolts. When servicing this component do not reuse the bolts, New torque-to-yield bolts must be installed. Reusing used torque-to-yield bolts will not provide proper bolt torque and clamp load. Failure to install NEW torque-to-yield bolts may lead to engine damage.
3. Tighten the left (front) cylinder head bolts (1-8) in sequence.
Tighten
- Tighten the cylinder head bolts (1-8) in sequence to 60 Nm (44 lb ft).
- Use the J 36660-A in order to turn the cylinder head bolts (1-8) in sequence an additional 95 degrees.
4. Install the left (front) exhaust manifold. Refer to Exhaust Manifold Replacement Service and Repair.
5. Install the left (front) spark plugs. Refer to Spark Plug Replacement Service and Repair.
6. Install the left (front) spark plug wires to the spark plugs. Refer to Spark Plug Wire Harness Replacement Service and Repair.
7. Install the oil level indicator tube. Refer to Oil Level Indicator and Tube Replacement Service and Repair.
8. Install the right engine mount strut bracket. Refer to Engine Mount Strut Bracket Replacement. Engine Mount Strut Bracket Replacement (Right)
9. Install the exhaust crossover pipe. Refer to Exhaust Crossover Replacement Service and Repair.
10. Install the valve rocker arms and pushrods. Refer to Valve Rocker Arm and Push Rod Replacement Service and Repair.
11. Install the lower intake manifold. Refer to Intake Manifold Replacement Service and Repair.
12. Install the upper intake manifold. Refer to Intake Manifold Replacement Service and Repair.
13. Fill the engine with new engine oil. Refer to Engine Oil and Oil Filter Replacement Service and Repair.
14. Fill the cooling system with engine coolant. Refer to Cooling System Draining and Filling Service and Repair.
