Ignition Switch: Service and Repair





REMOVAL PROCEDURE

CAUTION: Refer to SIR Handling Caution, SIR System Precautions







1. Apply the park brake.
2. Disconnect the negative battery cable in order to maintain the key code, Battery Negative Cable Disconnect/Connect Procedure
3. Disable the SIR system. Service and Repair
4. Remove the radio, Service and Repair or the navigation display module, Service and Repair
5. Remove the knee bolster, Knee Bolster Replacement
6. Disconnect the electrical connectors from the ignition switch.
7. Remove the lamp socket from the ignition switch.
8. Turn the ignition to the run position.
9. Depress the release button (1) on the park lock cable and pull the cable, in order to disconnect the park lock cable from the ignition switch.
The release button (1) is located on the bottom of the ignition switch at the 6 o'clock position.






10. Look through the radio/navigation display opening, and locate the ignition lock cylinder retaining tab (3).
The ignition lock cylinder retaining tab (3) is located on the right lower side of the ignition switch assembly (2).
11. Using a flat-bladed tool, depress and hold the ignition lock cylinder retaining tab (3)
12. Remove the ignition lock cylinder from the IP.
13. Remove the ignition switch fastener (1).






14. Looking through the opening next to the steering column, remove the fastener (2) from the ignition switch (2)
15. Remove the ignition switch assembly from the IP.

INSTALLATION PROCEDURE






1. Install the ignition switch (2) to the IP retainer.

Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

2. Through the opening next to the steering column, install the ignition switch fastener (1).

Tighten
Tighten the fastener to 2 Nm (18 lb in).






3. Through the IP endcap opening, install the ignition switch fastener (1).

Tighten
Tighten the fastener to 2 Nm (18 lb in).






4. Install the park lock cable (1) to the ignition switch.
5. Connect the electrical connectors.
6. Install the lamp socket to the ignition switch.






7. With the key installed in the ignition lock cylinder (1) insert the ignition lock cylinder (1) into the IP opening (2).
The lock cylinder retaining tab (3) will produce an audible click, when fully engaged.
8. Using light force, pull on the lock cylinder in order to ensure the lock cylinder is engaged.
9. Turn the ignition to LOCK, then remove the key.
10. Install the radio, Service and Repair or the navigation display module, Service and Repair
11. Install the knee bolster, Knee Bolster Replacement
12. Enable the SIR system, Service and Repair
13. Connect the negative battery cable, Battery Negative Cable Disconnect/Connect Procedure
14. Inspect the ignition switch for proper operation in all positions.
15. Release the park brake.
