Diagnostic Fault Information






Circuit/System Description

The Suspension Control Module supplies a 5 volt reference signal to each suspension position sensor. The suspension position sensors supply an voltage signal of 0.25-4.75 volts to the Suspension Control Module which represents the position between the body and the wheel. The sensors are also grounded through the Suspension Control Module.

Conditions for Running the DTC

* Battery voltage is between 9-16 volts

* Ignition is ON

Conditions for Setting the DTC

When the Suspension Control Module measures a position sensor signal voltage below 0.30 volt or above 4.70 volts for more than 5 second while the vehicle is operated under normal driving conditions.

Action Taken When the DTC Sets

* The Suspension Control Module will enter the speed dependent damping mode.

* The Suspension Control Module sends a message to the Instrument Cluster to display SERVICE SUSPENSION SYSTEM message.

Conditions for Clearing the DTC

A history DTC will clear after 44 consecutive ignition cycles if the condition for the malfunction is no longer present.

Circuit/System Verification

1. Ignition ON

2. Observe the scan tool Suspension Position Sensor data parameters. The readings should vary between.025-4.75 volts while the vehicle is jounced.

If the Suspension Position Sensor voltage is not between.025-4.75 volts

1. Refer to Circuit/System Testing

If the Suspension Position Sensor Voltage is between 0.25-4.75 volts

3. All OK

Circuit/System Testing

1. Ignition OFF and all vehicle systems OFF. Disconnect the harness connector of the appropriate B152 Suspension Position Sensor. It may take up to 5 min for all vehicle systems to power down.

2. Test for less than 10 ohms between the low reference circuit terminal 2 and ground.

If 10 ohms or greater

1. Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector at the K19 Suspension Control Module.

2. Test for less than 2 ohms in the low reference circuit end to end.

If 2 ohms or greater, repair the open/high resistance in the circuit.

If less than 2 ohms, replace the K19 Suspension Control Module.

If less than 10 ohms

3. Ignition ON.

4. Test for 4.8-5.2 V between the 5 V reference circuit terminal 1 and ground.

If less than 4.8 V

1. Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector at the K19 Suspension Control Module.

2. Test for infinite resistance between the 5 V reference circuit and ground.

If less than infinite resistance, repair the short to ground on the circuit.

If infinite resistance

3. Test for less than 2 ohms in the 5 V reference circuit end to end.

If 2 ohms or greater, repair the open/high resistance in the circuit.

If less than 2 ohms, replace the K19 Suspension Control Module.

If greater than 5.2 V

1. Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector at the K19 Suspension Control Module, ignition ON.

2. Test for less than 1 V between the 5 V reference circuit and ground.

If 1 V or greater, repair the short to voltage on the circuit.

If less than 1 V, replace the K19 Suspension Control Module.

If within 4.8-5.2 V

5. Ignition ON.

6. Verify the appropriate scan tool Suspension Position Sensor parameter is less than 0.35 V.

If 0.35 V or greater

1. Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector at the K19 Suspension Control Module, ignition ON.

2. Test for less than 1 V between the signal circuit terminal 3 and ground.

If 1 V or greater, repair the short to voltage on the circuit.

If less than 1 V, replace the K19 Suspension Control Module.

If less than 0.35 V

7. Install a 3 A fused jumper wire between the signal circuit terminal 3 and the 5 V reference circuit terminal 3.

8. Verify the appropriate scan tool Suspension Position Sensor parameter is greater than 4.75 V.

If 4.75 V or less

1. Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector at the K19 Suspension Control Module.

2. Test for infinite resistance between the signal circuit terminal and ground.

If less than infinite resistance, repair the short to ground on the circuit.

If infinite resistance

3. Test for less than 2 ohms in the signal circuit end to end.

If 2 ohms or greater, repair the open/high resistance in the circuit.

If less than 2 ohms, replace the K19 Suspension Control Module.

If greater than 4.75 V

9. Test or replace the B152 Suspension Position Sensor.
