Folding Top Cover Replacement

Removal Procedure

Note: The folding top Must be removed from the vehicle before doing the following steps.

1. Remove the folding top number 5 bow. Refer to Folding Top Number 5 Bow Replacement Folding Top Number 5 Bow Replacement.




2. Place the folding top on a clean and dry surface with the top side (1) down and in the full open position.




3. Remove the front screws (1) from the front of the folding top cover retainer (2).

4. Remove the folding top number 1 bow garnish molding. Do not remove the linkage from the number 1 bow. Refer to Folding Top Number 1 Bow Garnish Molding Replacement Folding Top Number 1 Bow Garnish Molding Replacement.

Note: Mark the locations of each strap and elastic strip.

5. Release the elastic strips rivets from the center number 1 bow.




6. Remove the tension cable spring screws (1) that attach the tension cables to the number 1 bow on the left and right side.

7. Remove the tension cable from the headliner stopping the rear weatherstrip, Do not remove the cable from the rear weatherstrip.

Note: Do Not remove the headliner completely from the frame.

8. Detach the headliner parts as necessary to loosen the headliner. Only do those steps in the headliner replacement procedure that will gain access to the part. Refer to Folding Top Headlining Trim Panel Replacement Folding Top Headlining Trim Panel Replacement.

9. Release the headliner retaining bead from around the rear window frame before starting the removal of the folding top cover.

10. Remove the folding top pivot bracket nuts located on each side of the rear window under the folding top cover.

11. Disconnect the electrical connector from the rear window defogger.

12. Drill out the side straps rivets from the folding top cover on the right and left side.




13. Work the folding top cover (1) out of the bow tracks.

14. Remove the folding top cover from the frame.




15. Lay the folding top cover (1) face down and open.

16. Remove the tension cable (5) from both sides of the folding top cover. Refer to Folding Top Cover Side Tension Cable Replacement Folding Top Cover Side Tension Cable Replacement.

Installation Procedure




1. Install the tension cables (5) to both sides of the folding top cover. Refer to Folding Top Cover Side Tension Cable Replacement Folding Top Cover Side Tension Cable Replacement.

2. Install the folding top cover (1) as follows:




1. Position the folding top cover in alignment with the bow tracks.

2. Position the folding top cover bead to the beveled edge at the end of each bow.

3. Starting from the left side (Driver Side), working the folding top cover and headliner bead in each side of the bow tracks.

4. After the folding top cover reaches the right side fully, locate the marks for the center elastic strips.

5. Install the elastic strip rivets, in the center of the number 1 bow.

Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution Fastener Caution.

3. Install the folding top cover pivot bracket nuts to each side of the rear window.

4. Connect the electrical connector to the rear window defogger.

Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution Fastener Caution.

5. Install the side folding top cover side strap and rivets, using a suitable tool.

6. Reattach the headliner parts as necessary, that was removed. Refer to Refer to Folding Top Headlining Trim Panel Replacement Folding Top Headlining Trim Panel Replacement.

7. Install the tension cable ends to each retaining hole, located in the center of the folding top side under the rear quarter window weatherstrip, left and right side. Refer to Folding Top Cover Side Tension Cable Replacement Folding Top Cover Side Tension Cable Replacement.





Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution Fastener Caution.

8. Install the tension cable spring screw (1) that attach the tension cable to the number 1 bow, left and right side, tighten to 9 Nm (80 lb in)

9. Install the folding top number 1 bow garnish molding. Refer to Folding Top Number 1 Bow Garnish Molding Replacement Folding Top Number 1 Bow Garnish Molding Replacement.




10. Remove the front screws (1) from the front of the folding top cover retainer (2).

11. Install the folding top cover to the number 5 bow. Refer to Folding Top Number 5 Bow Replacement Folding Top Number 5 Bow Replacement.

12. Place the folding top in the lock position, check it for appearance and fit.

13. Inspect the front edge of the folding top to windshield frame for a good seal.

14. Water test the vehicle to ensure a proper water tight seal.
