Lower Control Arm Replacement
Removal Procedure
1. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle Service and Repair.
2. Remove the tire and wheel assembly. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation (wQ50) Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation (wQ50)Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation (wRT2) Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation (wRT2).
3. Remove the rear position sensor link from the control arm, if equipped.
4. Mark the relationship of the adjuster to the frame before removing the adjuster bolt.
5. Support the rear knuckle with the hydraulic transmission jack.
6. Remove the stabilizer shaft link from the lower control arm. Refer to Stabilizer Shaft Link Replacement (w/o FE4, FE5, FE6) Stabilizer Shaft Link Replacement (w/o FE4, FE5, FE6)Stabilizer Shaft Link Replacement (w FE4, FE5, FE6) Stabilizer Shaft Link Replacement (w FE4, FE5, FE6).
7. Remove the lower shock absorber bolt from the lower control arm. Refer to Shock Absorber Replacement (w/FE5) Shock Absorber Replacement (w/FE5)Shock Absorber Replacement (wo/FE5) Shock Absorber Replacement (wo/FE5).
8. Remove the rear lower control arm bolt (1) and the washer (2).
9. Remove the rear lower control arm adjuster bolt (3), washer (2), and the nut (1).
10. Remove the rear lower control arm (1).
Installation Procedure
1. Position the rear lower control arm (1) in the rear cradle and knuckle.
2. Install the rear lower control arm adjuster bolt and align the reference marks.
Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution Fastener Caution.
3. Install the rear lower control arm bolt (1).
4. Install the rear lower control arm nut (2) and tighten to:
* First Pass: 40 Nm (30 lb ft)
* Final Pass: plus 120 degrees
5. Install the rear lower control arm adjuster washer (1) and nut (2), then tighten the nut (2) to 115 Nm (85 lb ft).
6. Install the lower shock absorber bolt to the lower control arm. Refer to Shock Absorber Replacement (w/FE5) Shock Absorber Replacement (w/FE5)Shock Absorber Replacement (wo/FE5) Shock Absorber Replacement (wo/FE5).
7. Transfer the rear position sensor link ball stud from the old control arm, if equipped.
8. Install the rear position sensor link to the control arm. Refer to Electronic Suspension Rear Position Sensor Replacement Electronic Suspension Rear Position Sensor Replacement.
9. Install the tire and wheel assembly. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation (wQ50) Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation (wQ50)Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation (wRT2) Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation (wRT2).
10. Lower the vehicle.
11. Check and adjust the rear wheel alignment, if needed. Refer to Rear Camber Adjustment Rear Camber Adjustment.
