Right Cylinder Head







RIGHT CYLINDER HEAD





1. Remove the intake air housing.




2. Disconnect the battery.Battery Cables - Removal




3. Remove the accessory drive belt.
4. Raise the vehicle on the hoist.
5. Remove the lower sound shield.
6. Drain the coolant.Service and Repair
7. Drain the oil.




8. Remove the right side catalytic converter bolts at the exhaust manifold.




9. Remove the generator.Generator - Removal
10. Remove the lower transmission dipstick tube bolt.
11. Lower the hoist.




12. Rotate the engine in a clockwise direction until the number one cylinder is at top dead center.




13. Remove the upper radiator hose at the engine.
14. Remove the fan assembly.
15. Remove the fan shroud assembly.




16. Disconnect the canister purge line from the engine.
17. Remove the intake air housing support.




18. Disconnect the fuel line.




19. Remove the evaporative emissions vacuum lines.
20. Remove the brake booster vacuum line.
21. Release the fuel pressure at the fuel rail.
22. Disconnect all 6 fuel injectors.
23. Remove the bolts from the fuel rail.
24. Remove the fuel rail and fuel injectors.




25. Disconnect the PCM.
26. Remove the PCM.
27. Remove the left PCM bracket.
28. Remove the right PCM bracket.
29. Remove the plastic tie-straps from the emote battery positive terminal wire, and position the terminal aside.




30. Remove the upper transmission dipstick bolts.
31. Remove the transmission dipstick.
32. Remove the bolts from the engine harness.
33. Position aside the engine harness.




34. Disconnect the three ignition coils in the right cylinder head.
35. Remove the ignition coil bolts for the three coils in the right cylinder head.
36. Remove the three ignition coils from the right cylinder head.




37. Remove the hoses from the air injection pump (5).
38. Remove the air injection pump bracket bolts.




39. Remove the right side air control valve bolts.
40. Remove the air control valve.
41. Remove the intake manifold assembly.Intake Manifold - Removal




42. Remove the upper idler pulleys (2).
43. Remove the accessory drive tensioner pulley bolts.
44. Remove the accessory drive tensioner pulley.




45. Disconnect the right head camshaft position sensors.

NOTE: Loosening the power steering pump reservoir bolts will allow easier access to the camshaft position sensors.

46. Remove the right head camshaft position sensors.




47. Disconnect the left head intake camshaft position sensors (2).
48. Disconnect the left head exhaust camshaft position sensors (3).
49. Remove the left head camshaft position sensors.




50. Remove the timing chain tensioner.
51. Reset the timing chain tensioner.




52. Remove the right upper front cylinder head cover.




53. Install a drift into the camshaft gear.
54. Remove the variable camshaft gears from the camshafts.
55. Support the timing chain in a manner that prevents the chain from slipping off the crankshaft gear.
56. Remove the intake camshaft drive gear.




57. Remove the intake camshaft clamps.
58. Remove the exhaust camshaft clamps.
59. Remove the intake camshaft.
60. Remove the exhaust camshaft.




61. Use a slide hammer to remove the timing chain slide rail pins from the cylinder head.
62. Remove the cylinder head bolts.
63. Remove the cylinder head.
64. Place the cylinder head on wooden blocks on the bench.




65. Remove the exhaust manifold nuts.
66. Remove the exhaust manifold from the cylinder head.
67. Remove the exhaust manifold studs from the cylinder head.
