Instrument Panel
Removal
All vehicles
1. Remove the steering wheel. For additional information, refer to Steering Column.
2. Remove the front seats. For additional information, refer to Seats.
3. Remove the 2 screws and position the parking brake release handle aside.
4. Remove the front door scuff plates.
5. Remove the LH and RH cowl side trim panels.
1. Remove the pin-type retainer.
2. Remove the cowl side trim panel.
6. Remove the 2 screws and position the hood release handle aside.
7. Remove the steering column opening trim panel.
1. Remove the 2 screws.
2. Remove the trim panel.
8. Remove the steering column opening cover reinforcement.
1. Remove the 5 bolts.
- To install, tighten to 8 Nm (71 lb-in).
2. Remove the reinforcement.
9. Disconnect the Brake Pedal Position (BPP) switch electrical connector.
10. If equipped, disconnect the Clutch Pedal Position (CPP) switch electrical connector.
11. If equipped, disconnect the selector lever cable from the steering column.
1. Disconnect the cable from the steering column shift tube lever.
2. Disconnect the cable from the steering column bracket.
12. Remove and discard the steering column shaft-to-steering column bolt and disconnect the steering column intermediate shaft.
- NOTE: A new steering column shaft-to-steering column bolt must be installed.
To install, tighten to 28 Nm (21 lb-ft).
13. Remove the LH and RH A-pillar trim panels.
14. NOTE: LH weatherstrip shown, RH similar.
Remove the weatherstrip from the door.
15. Disconnect the electrical connectors and the ground wire from the RH cowl side trim panel.
16. Disconnect the LH side bulkhead electrical connector.
- Press the release tab and pull the release lever.
17. Remove the audio unit. For additional information, refer to Accessories and Optional Equipment.
18. Lower the glove compartment.
- Press the release tabs inward while lowering the compartment.
19. Through the glove compartment opening, disconnect the blend door actuator electrical connector.
20. Through the glove compartment opening, disconnect the climate control vacuum harness connector.
21. Raise and secure the glove compartment.
- Press the release tabs inward while raising the glove compartment.
22. Remove the instrument panel defroster opening grille.
23. Remove the instrument panel cowl top bolts.
- To install, tighten to 30 Nm (22 lb-ft).
24. If equipped, remove the floor console. For additional information, refer to Floor Console Service and Repair.
25. If not equipped with high-series floor console, remove the consolette mat.
26. Remove the screws and remove the Restraints Control Module (RCM) cover.
27. Remove the consolette base.
- Remove the screws and remove the base.
Vehicles with manual transmission
28. Remove the gearshift lever. For additional information, refer to Manual Transmission/Transaxle.
29. Remove the screws and remove the manual transmission consolette.
All vehicles
30. Disconnect the RCM electrical connector.
1. Release the locking tab.
2. Disconnect the RCM electrical connector and ground strap bolt.
31. Pull the floor carpeting back.
Rear Wheel Drive (RWD) vehicles
32. Disconnect the instrument panel wiring harness.
1. Disconnect the electrical connector.
2. Release the retaining clips.
3. Remove the ground strap.
Four-Wheel Drive (4WD) vehicles
33. Disconnect the instrument panel wiring harness.
1. From underneath the vehicle, release the instrument panel main harness at the transfer case.
2. Release the retaining clips.
3. Remove the ground strap.
All vehicles
34. Remove the instrument panel side finish panel.
35. Disconnect the door harness electrical connector.
36. Remove the RH side instrument panel bolt.
- To install, tighten to 30 Nm (22 lb-ft).
37. Remove the LH instrument panel cowl side bolts.
38. NOTE: An assistant is required to carry out this step.
Position the instrument panel to gain access to the door harness electrical connector.
39. Disconnect the door harness electrical connector.
40. NOTE: An assistant is required to carry out this step.
Remove the instrument panel.
41. To install, reverse the removal procedure.
