Engine Front Cover Replacement

Removal Procedure

Important: The engine front cover gasket is reusable. Replace only if gasket is damaged.


1. Disconnect the battery negative cable from the battery. Refer to Battery Cable Replacement (Negative Cable to Engine) Battery Cable Replacement (Negative Cable to Engine)Battery Cable Replacement (Positive Cable) Service and RepairBattery Cable Replacement (Negative Cable to Frame) Battery Cable Replacement (Negative Cable to Frame) in Engine Electrical.




2. Remove the crankshaft position sensor from the engine front cover (2). Refer to Crankshaft Position Sensor Replacement Crankshaft Position Sensor Replacement and Crankshaft Position Sensor Reluctor Ring Replacement Service and Repair in Engine Controls.
3. Remove the crankshaft balancer from the crankshaft. Refer to Crankshaft Balancer Replacement Service and Repair.
4. Remove the water pump from the engine block. Refer to Water Pump Replacement Service and Repair in Engine Cooling.




5. Remove the engine front cover mounting bolts.
6. Remove the engine front cover from the engine block.
7. Remove the crankshaft front cover oil seal.

Installation Procedure

Important: The engine front cover gasket is reusable. Replace only if gasket is damaged.





1. Install the engine front cover to the engine block.

Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in cautions and Notices.

2. Install the engine front cover bolts

Tighten the bolts to 12 Nm (106 lb in).




3. Install the crankshaft front cover oil seal to the engine front cover.




4. Install the crankshaft position sensor to the engine front cover. (Reference item 2.) Refer to Crankshaft Position Sensor Replacement Crankshaft Position Sensor Replacement and Crankshaft Position Sensor Reluctor Ring Replacement Service and Repair in Engine Controls.
5. Install the crankshaft balancer to the crankshaft. Refer to Crankshaft Balancer Replacement Service and Repair.
6. Install the water pump. Refer to Water Pump Replacement Service and Repair in Engine Cooling.
7. Connect the battery cable to the battery. Refer to Battery Cable Replacement (Negative Cable to Engine) Battery Cable Replacement (Negative Cable to Engine)Battery Cable Replacement (Positive Cable) Service and RepairBattery Cable Replacement (Negative Cable to Frame) Battery Cable Replacement (Negative Cable to Frame) in Engine Electrical.
