Timing Components: Service and Repair






Timing Components Housing
This is a "Trustmark Authoring Standards (TAS) Repair Procedure"
- TAS style procedures can be identified by steps that have no accompanying step text and the magenta color of the electrical connectors and fasteners such as nuts, bolts, clamps or clips.
- TAS removal and installation procedures use a sequence of color illustrations to indicate the order to be followed when removing/disassembling or installing/assembling a component.
- Many of the TAS procedures will have the installation information within the removal steps.
- The TAS color illustrations use a variety of symbols to indicate important details of the procedures. It is important to understand these symbols in order to properly used the TAS procedures.

Removal

NOTE:
Take extra care when aligning and refitting the timing housing , as the seals can easily be damaged.

WARNING: Make sure to support the vehicle with axle stands.
1 Raise and support the vehicle.
2 Remove the cover and disconnect the battery ground cable.

3 Remove the timing chain and sprockets.

4 Disconnect the front LH HO2S and release the clip.




5 Remove the power steering pump support bracket




6 Release the power steering pump.





CAUTION: Discard the seal.




7 Release the power steering gear line.




8 Release the coolant rail.





CAUTION: The O-ring seal is to be reused unless damaged.
9 Disconnect the coolant rail hose from the coolant pump housing.









CAUTION: Discard the seal.

NOTE:
Discard the gasket.





NOTE:
Do not disassemble further if the component is removed for access only.

10 Remove the 2 timing chain slippers.





11 Remove the timing chain tensioner slipper.

Installation
1 Install the timing chain slippers.
2 Install the timing chain tensioner slipper.




3 Install 2 guide pins to aid installation.

CAUTION: Make sure that the component is clean, free of foreign material and lubricant.
4 Install the gasket and new seals.

CAUTION: Make sure that the gaskets are correctly located.

CAUTION: Make sure that the mating faces are clean and free of corrosion and foreign material.

CAUTION: Take extra care not to damage the seal.

CAUTION: Only tighten the bolts finger-tight at this stage.
5 Install the timing component housing.
6 Remove the guide pins.

Guide Pins, 303-1232




Install the timing component housing.
Torque to: 16 Nm
Check the timing component housing alignment. Correct alignment is when the adjusters are in contact with the cylinder block gear housing.
Set adjusters if required, there should be no requirement of adjustment if the housing has not been replaced.
Torque to: 1 Nm

CAUTION: Make sure that the seal is correctly located.

CAUTION: Make sure that the mating faces are clean and free of corrosion and foreign material.

NOTE:
Lubricate the O-ring seal with clean coolant.
7 Connect the coolant rail.
Torque to: 17 Nm
8 Install the coolant rail.
Torque to: 17 Nm
9 Install the power steering line.
Torque to: 17 Nm

CAUTION: Make sure that the mating faces are clean and free of corrosion and foreign material.

CAUTION: Make sure that the seal is correctly located.

10 Install the coolant pump.
Torque to: 17 Nm

11 Install the power steering pump.
Torque to: 25 Nm

12 Connect and secure the HO2S electrical connectors.

13 Install the power steering pump support bracket.
Torque to: 25 Nm

14 Install the timing chain and sprockets.

15 Connect the battery ground cable and install the cover.
