A960E AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION / TRANSAXLE: AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION ASSEMBLY: REMOVAL
1. PRECAUTION (w/ Navigation System for HDD)
NOTICE:
After the engine switch is turned off, the display and navigation module display (HDD navigation system) records various types of memory and settings. As a result, after turning the engine switch off, make sure to wait at least 60 seconds before disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal.
2. DISCONNECT CABLE FROM NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL
3. REMOVE PROPELLER SHAFT WITH CENTER BEARING ASSEMBLY

4. REMOVE COOL AIR INTAKE DUCT SEAL Removal
5. REMOVE INLET NO. 1 AIR CLEANER Removal
6. REMOVE V-BANK COVER SUB-ASSEMBLY Removal
7. REMOVE ENGINE ROOM SIDE COVER LH Removal
8. DRAIN ENGINE COOLANT Service and Repair
9. DRAIN AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION FLUID Removal
10. REMOVE NO. 1 BODY MOUNTING BRACKET SUB-ASSEMBLY LH Removal
11. REMOVE NO. 1 BODY MOUNTING BRACKET SUB-ASSEMBLY RH Removal
12. REMOVE ENGINE UNDER COVER
13. REMOVE NO. 2 ENGINE UNDER COVER
14. REMOVE NO. 1 EXHAUST PIPE SUPPORT BRACKET SUB-ASSEMBLY Removal
15. REMOVE NO. 3 ENGINE ROOM RELAY BLOCK Removal
16. REMOVE EXHAUST MANIFOLD SUB-ASSEMBLY LH Removal
17. REMOVE STARTER ASSEMBLY Removal
18. REMOVE FLYWHEEL HOUSING SIDE COVER
(a) Remove the flywheel housing side cover from the engine assembly.
19. REMOVE DRIVE PLATE AND TORQUE CONVERTER CLUTCH SETTING BOLT
(a) Turn the crankshaft to gain access to each bolt and remove the 6 bolts while holding the crankshaft pulley bolt with a wrench.

20. SEPARATE FLOOR SHIFT GEAR SHIFTING ROD SUB-ASSEMBLY Removal
21. SUPPORT AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION ASSEMBLY
(a) Support the automatic transmission assembly with a transmission jack.
22. REMOVE REAR ENGINE MOUNTING MEMBER
(a) Remove the 4 bolts and separate the rear engine mounting member from the body.
(b) Remove the 4 nuts and rear engine mounting member from the automatic transmission assembly.
23. SEPARATE WIRE HARNESS
(a) Remove the bolt and separate the wire harness.
(b) Tilt down the automatic transmission assembly.
(c) Disconnect the park/neutral position switch connector, transmission wire connector and 2 transmission revolution sensor connectors.

HINT
Disengage the claw, press down the lever, and then disconnect the transmission wire connector.
(d) Remove the bolt and separate the wire harness clamps from the automatic transmission assembly.

24. SEPARATE WATER BY-PASS HOSE
(a) Remove the bolt and water by-pass hose clamp.

(b) Separate the 2 water by-pass hoses from the transmission oil cooler.
NOTICE:
Use a container to catch any coolant which flows out of the water by-pass hoses.
25. REMOVE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION ASSEMBLY
(a) Remove the 9 bolts and automatic transmission assembly.
NOTICE:
Do not use excess force to pry on the transmission assembly.
26. REMOVE REAR NO. 1 ENGINE MOUNTING INSULATOR
(a) Remove the 4 bolts and rear No. 1 engine mounting insulator from the automatic transmission assembly.
27. REMOVE TRANSMISSION CONTROL SHAFT LEVER RH
(a) Remove the nut, washer and transmission control shaft lever RH from the park/neutral position switch assembly.

28. REMOVE TORQUE CONVERTER CLUTCH ASSEMBLY
(a) Put matchmarks on the torque converter clutch and transmission case.
