Cruise Control Servo Cable: Service and Repair
REMOVAL1. Depress the locking tab and rotate the speed control actuator cable cap to remove.
2. Disconnect the speed control actuator cable from the speed control servo pulley.
1 Gently push the retaining spring.
2 Disconnect the speed control cable slug from the speed control servo pulley.
NOTE: Opening the throttle will remove speed control actuator cable tension during this step.
3. Remove the air cleaner outlet tube; refer to Fuel Delivery and Air Induction.
4. Unclip the electrical connector from the accelerator control splash shield and position aside.
5. Remove the pin-type retainer from the rear face of the accelerator control splash shield.
1 Remove the center piece of the pin-type retainer.
2 Remove the pin-type retainer.
6. Remove the accelerator control splash shield.
1 Remove the bolt from the front face of the accelerator control splash shield.
2 Remove the accelerator control splash shield.
7. Remove the speed control actuator cable.
1 Disconnect the speed control actuator cable from the throttle body cam by pulling outward.
2 Remove the bolt.
3 Remove the speed control actuator cable.
INSTALLATION
1. Compress the spring and retain it in a compressed state.
2. Insert the speed control cable slug into the speed control servo pulley slot.
1 Gently push the retaining spring.
2 Insert the speed control cable slug completely into the speed control servo pulley slot.
NOTE: Once the speed control actuator cable slug is seated in the pulley slot; release the retension spring.
3. Release the compressed spring while aligning the speed control actuator cable cap tabs with the slots in the speed control servo housing.
CAUTION: It is necessary to squarely seat the speed control actuator cable cap and seal around the speed control servo pulley.
NOTE
^ Make sure the rubber seal is fully seated onto the speed control actuator cable cap.
^ Incorrect wrapping of the speed control actuator cable around the speed control servo pulley may result in a high idle condition.
4. Rotate the speed control actuator cable cap until the locking arm engages.
5. Connect the speed control actuator cable to the throttle body lever.
1 Position the speed control actuator cable.
2 Install the bolt.
3 Connect the speed control actuator cable to the throttle body cam by snapping it into place.
6. Adjust the speed control actuator cable; refer to Cable Adjustment. Adjustments
7. Install the accelerator control splash shield.
1 Position the accelerator control splash shield.
2 Install the bolt.
8. Install the accelerator control splash shield pin-type retainer.
9. Attach the electrical connector to the accelerator control splash shield.
10. Install the air cleaner outlet tube; refer to Fuel Delivery and Air Induction.
