Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) Valve Removal / Installation

EXHAUST GAS RECIRCULATION (EGR) VALVE REMOVAL / INSTALLATION - 2.3L

All vehicles

1. Disconnect the battery. See Procedures.

2. Drain the cooling system. See - Removal and Replacement.

3. Disconnect the coolant bypass hose.






4. Disconnect the EGR valve electrical connector.






Vehicles equipped with a manual transmission

1. Remove the shifter. See Service and Repair.

All vehicles

1. Remove the rear driveshaft. See Removal and Replacement or Removal and Replacement.

2. Remove the bolts retaining the catalytic converter to the muffler. Discard the exhaust converter outlet gasket.






3. Remove the bolts retaining the exhaust inlet pipe to the exhaust manifold and remove the exhaust downpipe.

NOTE:Manual transmission shown, automatic transmission similar.Support the transmission with a suitable transmission jack.






5. Detach the transmission electrical connector from the crossmember.






6. Remove the 6 bolts (three on each side) retaining the crossmember to the frame.




Tightening torque:99 Nm (10.1 kgf-m, 73 ft-lbf}

7. Remove the retaining nuts and the crossmember.






8. Lower the transmission enough to allow access to the EGR valve.

9. Disconnect the EGR coolant hose.






10. Remove the bolts and the EGR valve.






1 Discard the gasket.
Tightening torque
20 Nm {15 ft-lbf}

NOTE:Clean the gasket mating surfaces and install new gaskets.To install, reverse the removal procedure.
