Test NS-3A - Checking Fuel Pump

NOTE: For connector terminal identification, see CONNECTOR IDENTIFICATION  . For appropriate wiring diagram, see WIRING DIAGRAMS  at end of article.
  1. Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Connect jumper wire between positive battery terminal and fuel pump check terminal. See Figure . Listen for fuel pump operation at fuel filler pipe.
  2. If fuel pump operation cannot be heard, go to step 4). If fuel pump operation can be heard, remove jumper wire from fuel pump check terminal. Disconnect fuel injection control relay connector. See Figure .
  3. Using an ohmmeter, check resistance between fuel pump check terminal and fuel injection control relay connector terminal No. 1. If resistance is more than 10 ohms, repair open Black/Dark Green wire. Perform TEST VER-1. If resistance is less than 10 ohms, replace fuel injection control relay. Perform TEST VER-1.
  4. Disconnect fuel pump 2-pin connector. Using a voltmeter, check voltage at fuel pump 2-pin connector terminal No. 2 (Black/White wire). If voltage is less than 10 volts, repair open Black/White wire between fuel pump check terminal and fuel pump 2-pin connector. Perform TEST VER-1.
  5. If voltage is more than 10 volts, turn ignition switch to OFF position. Using an ohmmeter, check resistance between fuel pump 2-pin connector terminal No. 1 (Black wire) and ground. If resistance is more than 10 ohms, repair Black wire for an open circuit to ground. Perform TEST VER-1. If resistance is less than 10 ohms, replace fuel pump. Perform TEST VER-1.
