Headliner Replacement
Tools Required
J 38778 Door Trim Pad and Garnish Clip Remover
Removal Procedure
Caution: Do not attempt to repair or alter the head impact energy-absorbing material glued to the headliner or to the garnish trims. If the material is damaged, replace the headliner and/or the garnish trim. Failure to do so could result in personal injury.
1. Remove the sunshades. Refer to Sunshade Replacement (Sunshade Replacement) in Roof.
2. Remove the sunshade anchors. Refer to Sunshade Anchor Replacement (Sunshade Anchor Replacement) in Roof.
3. Disconnect the electric connector to the rear view mirror.
4. Remove the overhead console, if equipped. Refer to Console Replacement - Overhead (With Storage) (Console Replacement - Overhead (With Storage))Console Replacement - Overhead (W/Out Storage) (Console Replacement - Overhead (w/Out Storage)) .
5. Remove the power sunroof switch, if equipped. Refer to Sunroof Switch Replacement Service and Repair in Roof.
6. Remove the dome light, if equipped.
7. Remove the assist handle. Refer to Assist Handle Replacement - Front (Assist Handle Replacement - Front) and to Assist Handle Replacement - Rear (Assist Handle Replacement - Rear) .
8. Remove the side rail lamp. Refer to Roof Side Rail Lamp Replacement.
9. Remove the windshield pillar garnish molding. Refer to Garnish Molding Replacement - Windshield Pillar (Garnish Molding Replacement - Windshield Pillar) in Roof.
10. Remove the rear quarter upper trim panels. Refer to Trim Panel Replacement - Rear Quarter Upper (Sedan) (Trim Panel Replacement - Rear Quarter Upper (Sedan)) .
11. Pull down on the door opening weatherstrip seal on both the front and the rear doors.
12. If sunroof, remove the finish lace from the sunroof opening. Refer to Sunroof Finishing Lace Replacement Sunroof Finishing Lace Replacement in Roof.
13. Remove the rear push-in retainers (2) from the headliner using J 38778 .
14. Disconnect the headliner electric harness at the right side of the rear window shelf.
15. Rotate the right front seat back to a horizontal position.
16. Remove the headliner from the vehicle through the right front door.
Installation Procedure
Important: Do not bend the headlining too much when installing the headlining.
1. Install the headliner to the vehicle through the right front door.
2. Align the sunshade holes (1) in the headlining with the respective hole in the body structure.
3. Connect the headliner electric harness at the right side of the rear window shelf.
4. Install the push-in retainers (2) to the headliner.
5. Install the door opening weatherstrip seal in order to hold the headliner in place on both the front and the rear doors.
6. Install the finish lace around the sunroof opening. Refer to Sunroof Finishing Lace Replacement Sunroof Finishing Lace Replacement in Roof.
7. Install the rear quarter upper trim panel. Refer to Trim Panel Replacement - Rear Quarter Upper (Sedan) (Trim Panel Replacement - Rear Quarter Upper (Sedan)) .
8. Install the windshield pillar garnish molding . Refer to Garnish Molding Replacement - Windshield Pillar (Garnish Molding Replacement - Windshield Pillar) in Roof.
9. Install the side rail lamps. Refer to Roof Side Rail Lamp Replacement.
10. Install the assist handle. Refer to Assist Handle Replacement - Front (Assist Handle Replacement - Front) and to Assist Handle Replacement - Rear (Assist Handle Replacement - Rear) .
11. Install the overhead console. Refer to Console Replacement - Overhead (With Storage) (Console Replacement - Overhead (With Storage))Console Replacement - Overhead (W/Out Storage) (Console Replacement - Overhead (w/Out Storage)) .
12. Connect the electric connector to the rear view mirror.
13. Install the sunshade anchors. Refer to Sunshade Anchor Replacement (Sunshade Anchor Replacement) .
14. Install the sunshades. Refer to Sunshade Replacement (Sunshade Replacement) .
