Trim Pad Replacement - Instrument Panel (I/P) Upper

Removal Procedure

Caution: Refer to SIR Caution in Cautions and Notices.
1. Disable the SIR system. Refer to SIR Disabling and Enabling Zone 3 and to SIR Disabling and Enabling Zone 5 in SIR.
Caution: Refer to Battery Disconnect Caution in Cautions and Notices.
2. Disconnect the battery ground cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnect/Connect Procedure in Engine Electrical.
3. Remove the floor console. Refer to Console Replacement - Front Floor (Console Replacement - Front Floor) .
4. Remove the closeout insulator panels. Refer to Closeout/Insulator Panel Replacement - Left (Service and Repair) and to Closeout/Insulator Panel Replacement - Right (Closeout/Insulator Panel Replacement - Right) .
5. Remove the instrument panel compartment door. Refer to Door Replacement - Instrument Panel (I/P) Compartment (Instrument Panel Compartment - Door Replacement) .
6. Remove the instrument panel compartment lamp. Refer to Instrument Panel (I/P) Compartment Lamp Replacement in Lighting Systems.
7. Remove the instrument panel compartment lamp switch. Refer to Instrument Panel (I/P) Compartment Lamp Switch Replacement in Lighting Systems.
8. Remove the instrument panel lower trim retainer panel. Refer to Instrument Panel (I/P) Retainer Replacement (Instrument Panel (IP) - Retainer Replacement) .
9. Remove the instrument panel center trim. Refer to Trim Panel Replacement - Instrument Panel (I/P) Center (Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) - Trim Panel Replacement) .
10. Remove the instrument panel lower extension. Refer to Instrument Panel (I/P) Extension Replacement (Instrument Panel (IP) - Extension Replacement) .
11. Remove the HVAC manual controls. Refer toHVAC Control Assembly Replacement in HVAC.
12. Remove the radio housing bracket. Refer to Radio Housing Bracket Replacement (Upper) Radio Housing Bracket Replacement (Lower) in Entertainment.
13. Remove the instrument cluster. Refer to Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) Replacement.
14. Remove the headlamp switch. Refer to Headlamp Switch Replacement in Lighting Systems.
15. Remove the driver information center switch. Refer to Driver Information Center Switch Replacement (Removal and Replacement) .
16. Remove the instrument panel outer covers. Refer to Instrument Panel (I/P) Outer Trim Cover Replacement (Instrument Panel (IP) - Outer Trim Cover Replacement) .
17. Remove the windshield defroster grilles. Refer to Defroster Grille Replacement (Instrument Panel (IP) - Defroster Grille Replacement) .
18. Remove the daytime running lamp control module. Refer to Daytime Running Lights (DRL) Control Module Replacement in Lighting Systems.
19. Remove the instrument panel speakers. Refer to Speaker Replacement - Front in Entertainment.
20. Remove the cruise control switch. Refer to Cruise Control Switch Replacement in Cruise Control.
21. Remove the wiper washer switch. Refer to Wipers/Washer Switch Replacement in Wipers/Washer Systems.
22. Remove the steering wheel. Refer to Steering Wheel Replacement in Steering Wheel and Column.




23. Remove the 2 inner screws (1) attaching the instrument panel inflatable restraint (2) and instrument panel passenger's bracket and brace assembly (3) to the instrument panel inflatable restraint bracket.




24. Remove the 12 lower screws from the instrument panel pad.
25. Remove the 5 upper screws (1) from the instrument panel pad.
26. Remove the instrument panel pad from the vehicle.




27. From the rear side of the instrument panel pad, remove the 4 screws (3) attaching the instrument panel inflatable restraint opening trim cover (2) to the instrument panel inflatable restraint bracket (1).
28. While pushing on the trim cover (2), detach the 4 tabs (4) and remove the trim cover (2).




29. From the rear of the instrument pad, remove the 4 screws (2), attaching the instrument panel inflatable restraint bracket (3) to the pad assembly.
30. Remove the 6 screws (1), and remove the bracket (3) from the pad assembly.



Installation Procedure





1. Fit the bracket (3) in position, ensuring the lower screw hole tabs are positioned in the pad assembly.

Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in Cautions and Notices.

2. Install the 6 screws (1) attaching the bracket (3) to the pad assembly.

Tighten the 6 screws to 2 N.m (18 lb in).

3. Install the 4 screws (2), attaching the instrument panel inflatable restraint bracket (3) to the pad assembly.

Tighten the 4 screws to 9 N.m (80 lb in).





4. Locate the trim cover (2) in the pad assembly opening, and align the trim cover (2) with the 4 tabs (4).
5. Install the 4 screws (3) attaching the instrument panel inflatable restraint trim cover (2) to the inflatable restraint bracket (1).

Tighten the 4 screws to 9 N.m (80 lb in).





6. Install the instrument panel pad to the vehicle.
7. Install the 5 upper instrument panel pad screws (1).

Tighten the upper pad screws to 9 N.m (80 lb in).

8. Install the 12 lower instrument pad screws.

Tighten the lower pad screws to 2 N.m (18 lb in).





9. Install the 2 inner screws (1) attaching the instrument panel inflatable restraint (2) and instrument panel passenger's bracket and brace assembly (3) to the instrument panel inflatable restraint bracket.

Tighten the inner screws to 9 N.m (80 lb in).

10. Install the steering wheel. Refer to Steering Wheel Replacement in Steering Wheel and Column.
11. Install the wiper washer switch. Refer to Wipers/Washer Switch Replacement in Wipers/Washer Systems.
12. Install the cruise control switch. Refer to Cruise Control Switch Replacement in Cruise Control.
13. Install the instrument panel speakers. Refer to Speaker Replacement - Front in Entertainment.
14. Install the daytime running lamp control module. Refer to Daytime Running Lights (DRL) Control Module Replacement in Lighting Systems.
15. Install the windshield defroster grilles. Refer to Defroster Grille Replacement (Instrument Panel (IP) - Defroster Grille Replacement) .
16. Install the instrument panel outer covers. Refer to Instrument Panel (I/P) Outer Trim Cover Replacement (Instrument Panel (IP) - Outer Trim Cover Replacement) .
17. Install the instrument cluster. Refer to Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) Replacement.
18. Install the driver information center switch. Refer to Driver Information Center Switch Replacement (Removal and Replacement) .
19. Install the headlamp switch. Refer to Headlamp Switch Replacement in Lighting Systems.
20. Install the radio housing bracket. Refer to Radio Housing Bracket Replacement (Upper) Radio Housing Bracket Replacement (Lower) in Entertainment.
21. Install the HVAC manual controls. Refer to HVAC Control Assembly Replacement in HVAC.
22. Install the instrument panel lower extension. Refer to Instrument Panel (I/P) Extension Replacement (Instrument Panel (IP) - Extension Replacement) .
23. Install the instrument panel center trim. Refer to Trim Panel Replacement - Instrument Panel (I/P) Center (Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) - Trim Panel Replacement) .
24. Install the instrument panel lower trim retainer panel. Refer to Instrument Panel (I/P) Retainer Replacement (Instrument Panel (IP) - Retainer Replacement) .
25. Install the instrument panel compartment lamp switch. Refer to Instrument Panel (I/P) Compartment Lamp Switch Replacement in Lighting Systems.
26. Install the instrument panel compartment lamp. Refer to Instrument Panel (I/P) Compartment Lamp Replacement in Lighting Systems.
27. Install the instrument panel compartment door. Refer to Door Replacement - Instrument Panel (I/P) Compartment (Instrument Panel Compartment - Door Replacement) .
28. Install the closeout insulator panels. Refer to Closeout/Insulator Panel Replacement - Left (Service and Repair) and to Closeout/Insulator Panel Replacement - Right (Closeout/Insulator Panel Replacement - Right) .
29. Install the floor console. Refer to Console Replacement - Front Floor (Console Replacement - Front Floor) .
30. Connect the battery ground cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnect/Connect Procedure in Engine Electrical.
31. Enable the SIR system. Refer to SIR Disabling and Enabling Zone 3 and to SIR Disabling and Enabling Zone 5 in SIR.
