Overview of brake cables
Preliminary work
DANGER
Vehicle raised incorrectly.
- Danger of fatal injury or material damage should the vehicle fall down.
-> Raise the vehicle at the prescribed jacking points.
1. Raise the vehicle at the prescribed jacking points.
-> 401000 Lifting the vehicle.
2. Remove rear wheels.
-> 440519 Removing and installing wheel 44051900 Removing and installing wheel.
3. Remove rear underbody panelling.

4. Remove rear brake discs.

5. Remove rear brake shoe.

Removing brake cables
1. Remove centre console insert.

1.1. Open the lid on the oddments tray.
1.2. Remove centre console insert at the rear -1- ( -arrow- ).
2. Remove centre console floor at the rear.

2.1. Unscrew fastening screws -1- and remove centre console floor at the rear -2-.
3. Disengage brake cables at the handbrake lever.

Turn the lever -3- and disengage brake cables -1-.
4. Disengage brake cables at the expanding-lock.

4.1. Pull brake cables -1- out slightly.
4.2. Prise circlip -6- off the bolt -7- and remove it.
4.3. Pull out the bolt -7- and remove expanding-lock -8-.
5. Remove brake cables.

5.1. Pull brake cables -1- out of the guide tubes -5- at the wheel bearing housing -arrow-.
5.2. Pull brake cables -1- out of the guide tubes at the underbody.
5.3. Clean the guide tubes -5- at the wheel bearing housing.
Installing brake cables
1. Install brake cables.
1.1. Insert brake cables (at the underbody) into the housing or into the guide tubes (as of 2009 model) and press them in as far as they will go.
1.2. Insert brake cables -1- into the guide tubes -5- at the wheel bearing housing and press them in as far as they will go -arrow-.

2. Engage brake cables at the expanding-lock.

2.1. Fit expanding-lock -8- at the brake cable -1- and press the bolt -7- into the bore.
2.2. Fit circlip -6- on the bolt -7-.
3. Engage brake cables at the handbrake lever.

Turn the lever -3- and engage brake cables -1-.
4. Install centre console floor at the rear.

4.1. Open the lid on the oddments tray.
4.2. Fit centre console floor at the rear -2- and secure with the fastening screws -1-.
5. Install centre console insert.

5.1. Fit centre console insert at the rear -1- ( -arrow- ) and close the lid on the oddments tray.
Subsequent work
1. Install rear brake shoes.

2. Install rear brake discs.

3. Adjust parking brake shoes.

4. Install rear underbody panelling.

5. Fit rear wheels.
