Removal





3UR-FE LUBRICATION: OIL PUMP: REMOVAL

1. DISCHARGE FUEL SYSTEM PRESSURE Removal

2. DISCONNECT CABLE FROM NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL

3. DRAIN ENGINE OIL Replacement

4. DRAIN ENGINE COOLANT Service and Repair

5. REMOVE RADIATOR ASSEMBLY

(a) Remove the radiator Removal.

6. REMOVE AIR CLEANER HOSE ASSEMBLY Removal

7. REMOVE AIR CLEANER ASSEMBLY Removal

8. DISCONNECT ENGINE WIRE

(a) Engine Room LH Side:

(1) Remove the engine room relay block cover.





(2) Disconnect the 2 connectors and detach the 2 clamps from the engine room junction block.





Disconnect the 4 air injection control driver connectors.





Disconnect the 2 wire harness clamps.





Disconnect the injector connector.

(3) Disconnect the 4 ignition coil connectors.

(4) Disconnect the 2 VVT sensor connectors.

(5) Disconnect the 4 clamps.

(6) Remove the 2 bolts and ground wire.

(7) Disconnect the noise filter connector.





Disconnect the engine coolant temperature sensor connector.

(8) Disconnect the 2 camshaft timing oil control valve connectors.

(9) Disconnect the camshaft position sensor connector.

(10) Disconnect the 3 clamps.

(11) Disconnect the cooler compressor connector.





Engine Room RH Side:

(1) Disconnect the 2 camshaft timing oil control valve connectors.

(2) Disconnect the 4 ignition coil connectors.

(3) Disconnect the injector connector.

(4) Disconnect the 2 VVT sensor connectors.

(5) Disconnect the noise filter connector.

(6) Remove the 2 bolts and ground wire.

(7) Disconnect the 2 air pump connectors.

(8) Disconnect the throttle position sensor and throttle control motor connector.

(9) Disconnect the 5 clamps.





Disconnect the 2 clamps and power steering oil pressure switch connector.

(b) for 4WD:

Disconnect the clamp and junction connector.

9. REMOVE INTAKE MANIFOLD

(a) Remove the intake manifold Removal.

10. DISCONNECT AIR PUMP HOSE AND WIRE HARNESS





Disconnect the No. 2 and No. 3 air hoses.

(a) Disconnect the 2 clamps.

11. DISCONNECT HEATER HOSE AND PIPE





Remove the 2 bolts and disconnect the 3 hoses.

12. DISCONNECT COOLER COMPRESSOR ASSEMBLY





Remove the 2 bolts, 2 nuts and 2 stud bolts, and disconnect the cooler compressor.

HINT
It is not necessary to completely remove the compressor. With the hoses connected to the compressor, hang the compressor on the vehicle body with a rope.

13. DISCONNECT NO. 2 FUEL TUBE SUB-ASSEMBLY





Remove the 2 bolts and disconnect the fuel tube.

14. REMOVE OIL FILTER ELEMENT Replacement

15. REMOVE OIL PRESSURE SENDER GAUGE ASSEMBLY Removal

16. REMOVE NO. 2 WATER BY-PASS PIPE (w/ Oil Cooler)





Remove the 3 bolts.

(a) Disconnect the 4 hoses and remove the water by-pass pipe.

17. REMOVE NO. 1 OIL COOLER BRACKET (w/ Oil Cooler) Removal

18. REMOVE OIL FILTER BRACKET (w/ Oil Cooler) Removal

19. REMOVE OIL FILTER BRACKET (w/o Oil Cooler)





Remove the 2 bolts, 2 nuts and oil filter bracket.





Remove the 2 O-rings.

20. REMOVE ENGINE OIL LEVEL DIPSTICK GUIDE Removal

21. DISCONNECT VANE PUMP ASSEMBLY





Remove the 2 bolts and disconnect the vane pump.

22. REMOVE GENERATOR ASSEMBLY





Disconnect the generator connector.

(a) Remove the terminal cap and nut, and disconnect the generator wire.





Remove the bolt and disconnect the wire harness bracket from the generator.





Remove the 2 bolts, 2 nuts and generator.

(b) Remove the 2 stud bolts.

23. REMOVE NO. 1 WATER BY-PASS HOSE





Remove the No. 1 water by-pass hose by disconnect the hose from the water inlet housing and front water by-pass joint.

24. REMOVE WATER BY-PASS PIPE SUB-ASSEMBLY





Remove the bolt and disconnect the air tube.





Disconnect the 2 hoses.

(a) Remove the 2 bolts and water by-pass pipe.

25. REMOVE FRONT WATER BY-PASS JOINT





Disconnect the No. 2 water by-pass hose from the water by-pass joint.

(a) Remove the 4 nuts, water by-pass joint and 2 gaskets.

26. REMOVE NO. 2 ENGINE COVER Removal

27. REMOVE NO. 1 ENGINE COVER Removal

28. REMOVE AIR TUBE SUB-ASSEMBLY





Remove the bolt, disconnect the 2 hoses, and remove the air tube.

29. REMOVE WATER INLET HOUSING





Remove the 3 bolts, water inlet housing and gasket.

30. REMOVE WATER PUMP PULLEY





Using SST, hold the water pump pulley.

(a) Remove the 4 bolts and water pump pulley.

31. REMOVE NO. 1 IDLER PULLEY SUB-ASSEMBLY





Remove the bolt and idler pulley.

32. REMOVE FAN BRACKET ASSEMBLY





Remove the 4 bolts and fan bracket.

33. REMOVE V-RIBBED BELT TENSIONER ASSEMBLY

(a) Remove the standard bolt, 6 mm hexagon wrench bolt and belt tensioner.





34. REMOVE IGNITION COIL ASSEMBLY

(a) Remove the 8 bolts and 8 ignition coils.

35. REMOVE CYLINDER HEAD COVER SUB-ASSEMBLY LH

(a) Remove the 14 bolts, seal washer, cylinder head cover and gasket.





HINT
Make sure the removed parts are returned to the same places they were removed from.

(b) Remove the 5 gaskets from the camshaft bearing caps (No. 2, No. 3).





36. REMOVE CYLINDER HEAD COVER SUB-ASSEMBLY RH





Remove the bolt and noise filter.

(a) Remove the 14 bolts, seal washer, cylinder head cover and gasket.





HINT
Make sure the removed parts are returned to the same places they were removed from.

(b) Remove the 5 gaskets from the camshaft bearing caps (No. 1, No. 3).





37. REMOVE CRANKSHAFT PULLEY





Using SST, loosen the crankshaft pulley set bolt.

SST : 09330-00021

(a) Partially install the pulley set bolt to the crankshaft until 2 or 3 threads are engaged.

(b) Using the pulley set bolt and SST, remove the crankshaft pulley.

38. DISCONNECT WIRE HARNESS CLAMP BRACKET





Remove the bolt and disconnect the bracket.

39. REMOVE TIMING CHAIN COVER SUB-ASSEMBLY

(a) Remove the 28 bolts and nut shown in the illustration.





(b) Remove the timing chain cover by prying between it and the cylinder head and cylinder block with a screwdriver as shown in the illustration.





NOTICE:
Be careful not to damage the cylinder head and cylinder block contact surfaces of the chain cover.

HINT
Tape the screwdriver tip before use.

(c) Remove the oil pump gasket from the cylinder block.









Remove the O-ring from the oil pan.

40. REMOVE WATER INLET PIPE

(a) Remove the water inlet pipe.





(b) Remove the 2 O-rings from the water inlet pipe.
