Component Locations
1 Transmission Control Module -J217
- Location refer to Fig. 1 and Fig. 2 below.
- Removing refer to Fig. 2 and Fig. 3 below.
- Installing refer to Fig. 2 and Fig. 4 below.
- Checked by On Board Diagnostic (OBD).
2 Engine control module
- Location refer to Fig. 5 below.
- Removing and installing refer to Powertrain Management

NOTE: If engine or transmission control modules are replaced, the system must be returned to basic setting refer to Initiating basic setting. Service and Repair

3 Data Link Connector (DLC)
- Location refer to Fig. 6 and Fig. 7 below.
4 Valve body
- Location refer to Fig. 8 below.
- Removing and installing refer to Replacement.
- The Solenoid Valves -N88-, -N89-, -N90-, -N91-, -N92-, -N93- and -N94- are attached to valve body
- Components are checked by On Board Diagnostic (OBD).
5 Conductor strip with integrated Transmission Fluid Temperature Sensor-G93
- Location refer to Fig. 9 below.
- Removing and installing refer to Fig. 10 below.
- -G93- is checked by On Board Diagnostic (OBD).
6 Multi-Function Transmission Range (TR) Switch -F125-
- Location and removing and installing refer to Fig. 11 below.
- Checked by On Board Diagnostic (OBD).
7 Transmission Vehicle Speed Sensor -G38-
- Location and removing and installing refer to Fig. 12 below.
- The connector T2 to wiring harness is white
- Checked by On Board Diagnostic (OBD).

CAUTION: Do not interchange connector T2 for sensors -G38- and -G68-,

8 Vehicle Speed Sensor -G68-
- Location and removing and installing refer to Fig. 13 below.
- The connector T2 to wiring harness is black
- Checked by On Board Diagnostic (OBD).
9 Throttle Position (TP) Position -G69-
- Location refer to Fig. 14 below.
- Removing and installing refer to Powertrain Management.
- After repairs initiate basic setting.
- The signal of TP Sensor can be checked by On Board Diagnostic (OBD).
10 Shift Lock Solenoid -N110-
- Location refer to Fig. 15 below.
- Removing and installing refer to Servicing Selector Mechanism.
- Can be checked electrically refer to Electrical Test and via reading measuring value block refer Measureing Values Block.
11 Cruise Control Switch -E45-
- Location refer to Fig. 16 below.
- Removing and installing refer to Lighting and Horns
- Can be checked via reading measuring value block.
12 Kick Down Switch -F8-
- Location refer to Fig. 17 below.
- When removing and installing kick down switch, remove and install throttle cable, then adjust afterward. refer to Powertrain Management.
- Can be checked electrically refer to Electrical Test and via reading measuring value block refer to Measureing Values Block.
13 Brake Light Switch -F-
- Location: refer to Fig. 18 below.
- Removing and installing refer to Lighting and Horns.
- Can be checked electrically refer to Electrical Test and via reading measuring value block refer to Measureing Values Block.
14 Park/Neutral Position Relay -J226-
- Location refer to Fig. 19 below.
15 Transmission Range Selector Lever Display -Y5-
- Location refer to Fig. 20 below.
16 Throttle Position (TP) Sensor -G69- (for Diesel engine)
- Location refer to Fig. 21 below.
- Can be checked and adjusted, refer to Measureing Values Block.
- Removing and installing refer to Powertrain Management.
- Checked by On Board Diagnostic (OBD).
17 Engine Speed (RPM) Sensor -G28- (for Diesel engine)
- Location refer to Fig. 22 below.
- Checked by On Board Diagnostic (OBD).

Locations/Procedures





Fig. 1 Transmission Control Module-J217- Location In Vehicles Up To 12, 1995
- The control module is located in the footwell on the "A" pillar.
Remove screw to remove.





Fig. 2 Transmission Control Module-J217- Location/Removing/Installing In Vehicles From 01.1996
- The control module is located in the left footwell at the "A" pillar.
- Remove cover on relay plate and unhook plate refer to Electrical system, Repair Group 97, Relay plate, removing and installing
- Disconnect multi-pin connector and remove from control module.
- Remove control module.
- Installation is the reverse of removal.

- Release multi-pin connector, then pull connector off control module.
- Remove control module.

- Locate multi-pin connector on control module pins -arrows- then lock multi-pin connector.
- Install screw.





Fig. 5 Engine Control Module, Location
- The control module is located in plenum chamber, right.
- Removing and installing Engine Control Module refer to Powertrain Management





Fig. 6 Data Link Connector (DLC), Location In Vehicles Up To 12.95
- The DLC is located above the relay station.
- Remove stowage tray in front of relay station.





Fig. 7 Data Link Connector (DLC), Location In Vehicles From 01.96
- The DLC is located behind a cover to the right of the instrument cluster.





Fig. 8 Valve Body, Location
- The valve body is bolted to underside of transmission housing inside oil pan.
- The Solenoid Valves -N88-, -N89-, -N90-, -N91-, -N92-, -N93- and -N94- are attached to the valve body.
- Removing and installing valve body refer to Replacement. Service and Repair





Fig. 9 Conductor Strip With Integrated Transmission Fluid Temperature Sensor -G93-, Location
- The conductor strip is located in the oil pan on the valve body.
- The conductor strip can be changed with the transmission installed without removing the valve body.
- Do not kink or damage the conductor strip.

- Separate wiring connector at transmission and remove retaining clamp.
- Remove oil pan
- Remove guide -1-.
- Pry conductor strip off solenoid valve indirection of arrow with special tool 3373.

NOTE: If the locating points are damaged the valve body must be replaced.

- Installation is performed in the reverse order.





Fig. 11 Multi-Function Transmission Range (TR) Switch -F125-, Location
- The multi-function switch is located on transmission lower section.
- Multi-Function TR Switch -F125-, removing and installing
Disconnect connector from switch.
Remove bolt and retainer.
Place oil tray under transmission to catch ATF.
Remove multi-function switch.
Replace seal.
Installation is performed in the reverse order.
- Tighten bolt to 10 Nm (7 ft lbs).
Check ATF level and top-up refer to Checking/Topping Up Fluid Level. Testing and Inspection





Fig. 12 Transmission Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS) -G38-, Location
- The VSS -G38- -arrow- is located on top of the transmission.
- VSS -G38-, removing and installing
Disconnect connector from sensor.
Remove bolt and pull sensor out.
Replace seal.
Installation is performed in the reverse order.
Tighten bolt to 10 Nm (7 ft lbs).





Fig. 13 Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS) -G68-, Location
- The VSS -G68- -arrow- is located on front of transmission.
- VSS -G68-, removing and installing
Disconnect black connector from sensor.
Remove bolt and pull sensor out.
Replace seal.
Installation is performed in the reverse order.
Tighten bolt to 10 Nm (7 ft lbs).

- The TP Sensor -G69- is located on the throttle valve housing (engine)
Construction can vary, according to engine.
- TP Sensor -G69-, removing and installing
Removing and installing is described in relevant injection and ignition assembly group, compare engine code refer to Powertrain Management.





Fig. 15 Shift Lock Solenoid -N110-, Location
- The Shift Lock Solenoid -N1 10- is located on selector lever -arrow-.
- Shift Lock Solenoid -N110-, removing and installing refer to Servicing Selector Mechanism. Service and Repair

- The Cruise Control Switch -E45- is located on the steering column.
- Cruise Control Switch -E45-, removing and installing refer to Cruise Control





Fig. 17 Kick Down Switch -F8-, Location
- The Kick Down Switch -E45- -arrow- is integrated into the accelerator cable and is located in the engine compartment.
- Kick Down Switch -F8-, removing and installing
Remove accelerator cable to remove and install the kickdown switch, then reinstall cable and adjust refer to Powertrain Management.

- The Brake Light Switch -E45- -arrow- is located on the pedal cluster.
- Brake Light Switch -F-, removing and installing refer to Lighting and Horns





Fig. 19 Park/Neutral Position (PNP) Relay -J226-, Location
- The PNP Relay -J226- is located on the additional relay carrier behind the instrument panel.
Relay is marked with number "150" -arrow-.

- The TR Selector Lever Display -Y5- -arrow- is located in the instrument cluster.
- TR Selector Lever Display -Y5-, removing and installing refer to Instrument Panel, Gauges and Warning Indicators.

- The TP Sensor is located on injection pump control lever.

- Engine Speed (RPM) Sensor (Diesel engine), removing and installing
Disconnect connector from sensor.
Remove bolt and pull sensor out.
Replace seal.
Installation is performed in the reverse order.
Tighten bolt to 10 Nm (7 ft lb).
