Engine Lubrication: Service and Repair

LUBRICATION SYSTEM COMPONENTS, REMOVING AND INSTALLING

NOTE:
- Should you find a lot of metal shavings in the engine oil caused by internal damage, replace all oil spray jets, check the oil pump check valve and oil cooler. Be sure to clean all oil passages carefully to avoid possible engine failure later.
- The oil level must not be above the mark on the dip stick as the Three Way Catalytic Converter may be damaged.

Oil Pressure And Oil Pressure Switch, Checking
- Refer to "Oil Pressure and Oil Pressure Switch, Checking". Testing and Inspection

Engine Oil Capacity:
Without oil filter change: 5.0 It. (4.3 qt)
With oil filter change: 5,5 It. (4.5 qt)

Engine Oil Specifications
Use engine oils as per WV standard 500 00 or 501 01. If not available use multi-grade or single grade oils conforming to API-SF or SG.





1 - 1O Nm (7 ft lb)

2 - Oil pump drive cover

3 - 0-ring
- Replace.
- Lubricate with oil before installing.

4 - Oil pump drive

5 - Intermediate shaft

6 - Thrust washer

7 - 10 Nm (7 ft lb)
- Insert with locking fluid D6.

8 - Oil pump
- Coat sealing surfaces of oil pressure pipe at cylinder block and oil pump housing with AMV 188 OO1 02.

9 - 25 Nm (18 ft lb)

10 - 10 Nm (7 ft lb)
- Replace.
- Insert with locking fluid' D6.

11 - Oil drain plug, 30 Nm (22 ft lb)

12 - Seal
- Replace.

13 - Oil spray jet
- For piston cooling
- Removing and installing see Fig. 1
- Opening pressure: 2,0 bar
- See note above.

14 - 15 Nm (11 ft lb)
15 - Gasket
- Replace.
- Before installing gasket, coat sealing surfaces on oil pan and cylinder block with D2.

16 - Oil pan
- Clean sealing surface before installing.

17 - Oil cooler
- Coat contact surface outside the seal with AMV 188 100 02.
- Be sure there is enough clearance with other components.
- See note above.

18 - Oil pump cover 25 Nm (18 ft lb)

19 - Gasket
- Replace.
- Note installation position
- Lubricate with oil before installing

20 - Oil filter housing

21 - Dip stick
- Oil level must not be above max. mark.

22 - Guide tube
- Install with bolt to intake manifold lower section.,

23 - Oil check valve, 5 Nm (44 in. lb)
- Note installation position
- Clean if dirty
- See note above.

Oil Spray Jet, Removing And Installing

NOTE: Crankshaft removed. Oil spray jets are installed in main bearings 2 to 7.

- Remove with 4 mm dia. punch.
- Install by hand with 6 mm dia. punch -arrow-.
