Ignition System: Service and Repair

Ignition System Components Overview

• The engine speed sensor (G28) is on the cylinder block => [ (Item 29) ] Chain Drive and Cylinder Block and Lubrication Overview.






1 Ignition Coil 1 with Power Output Stage (N70)

• Ignition Coil 2 with power output stage (N127)

• Ignition Coil 3 with power output stage (N291)

• Ignition Coil 4 with power output stage (N292)

• Ignition Coil 5 with power output stage (N323)

• Ignition Coil 6 with power output stage (N324)

• Use puller for ignition coil (T10095 A) for removal. Refer to => [ Ignition Coils with Power Output Stages ] Service and Repair.

2 Connector

• 4-pin

3 Bracket

• For the harness connector for Knock Sensor (KS) 1.

4 Bolt

• 10 Nm

5 Connector

• Black, 3-pin

• Sensor contacts and connector contacts gold plated

6 Knock Sensor (KS) 1 (G61)

• Sensor contacts and connector contacts gold plated

• Installed location - exhaust side of the cylinder block.

7 Bolt

• 20 Nm

• Tightening specification affects the function of KS.

8 Exhaust Camshaft Adjuster

• With sensor wheel for the CMP sensor 2.

• If the camshaft adjuster has been removed, adjust valve timing. Refer to => [ Intermediate Shaft and Timing Chains, Installing ] Intermediate Shaft and Timing Chains, Installing.

9 Cover

• Removing and installing, refer to => [ Camshaft Front Cover Overview ] Service and Repair.

10 Seal

• Replace

11 Camshaft Position (CMP) Sensor 2 (G163)

• For the exhaust camshaft

• Sensor contacts and connector contacts are gold plated

12 Bolt

• 10 Nm

13 Connector

• Black, 3-pin

• Sensor contacts and connector contacts are gold plated.

• Mark the connector before disconnecting.

14 Camshaft Position (CMP) Sensor (G40)

• For the intake camshaft

• Sensor contacts and connector contacts are gold plated

15 Knock Sensor (KS) 2 (G66)

• Sensor contacts and connector contacts are gold plated

• Installed location - intake side of the cylinder block.

16 Connector

• Black, 2-pin

• Sensor contacts and connector contacts are gold plated

17 Intake Camshaft Adjuster

• With sensor wheel for the CMP sensor.

• If the camshaft adjuster has been removed, adjust valve timing. Refer to => [ Intermediate Shaft and Timing Chains, Installing ] Intermediate Shaft and Timing Chains, Installing.

18 Spark Plug

• If the spark plug is replace, grease the ignition coil with power output stage. Refer to => [ Ignition Coils with Power Output Stages ] Service and Repair.

• Removing and installing with spark plug removal tool (3122 B).

• Type, tightening specification and electrode gap, refer to => [ Test Data and Spark Plugs ] Test Data and Spark Plugs.

19 Control Housing

• For the camshaft adjustment

• Removing and installing, refer to => [ Camshafts ] Service and Repair.
