Shifter M/T: Adjustments
Shift Mechanism, Adjusting
Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required
• Connecting Pin (T10027 A)
• The following points are essential to ensure correct shift adjustment:
• The shift mechanism operating and transfer elements must work properly.
• The shift mechanism must move freely.
• The transmission, clutch and clutch mechanism must be in proper working condition.
• Transmission in the neutral position.
- Remove the air filter housing, if the locking pin - A - and the securing mechanisms for the shift and selector lever cables are not accessible through it.
- Pull the locking mechanisms on the shift and selector cable retainers forward as far as the stop in the - direction of arrow 1 - and then turn it toward the left in the - direction of arrow 2 - to unlock it.
Secure the shift rod as follows:
- Press down the selector shaft - direction of arrow 1 -.
- While pressing down the selector shaft, rotate the locking pin - A - upward in - direction of arrow 3 - and simultaneously press it in the - direction of arrow 2 - until it engages in the selector shaft.
- Remove the shift boot, knob and, if present, the noise insulation. Refer to one of the following:

Set the shift lever as follows:
- Move the shift lever to the neutral position.
- Guide the (T10027 A) through the hole - A - and into the hole - B -.
- Turn the locking mechanism on the shift and selector cables toward the right as far as the stop in the - direction of the arrow 1 -.
The spring presses the locking mechanism into the initial position in - direction of arrow 2 -.
- Rotate the locking pin - A - back into the initial position in - direction of arrow 2 -.
When doing this, the bracket - A - must be pressed out of the transmission in - direction of arrow 1 -.
• Press the bracket - A - out of the selector housing as far as the stop - direction of arrow 1 -. It must face upward - direction of arrow 2 -.
- Remove the (T10027 A) out of the holes - A and B -.
- Install the boot, the shift knob and, if equipped, the noise insulation. Refer to one of the following:

- Check the selector shaft for ease of movement.
- If removed, install entire air filter housing.
Function
• In neutral, the shift lever must rest in the 3rd/4th gear gate.
- Press the clutch.
- Select all gears several times. Pay particular attention to the operation of the reverse gear lock.
- Should a gear fail to engage smoothly after repeated selection, adjust the shift mechanism again.
