Transmission Identification

Transmission Identification

For an example, see - arrow -.

GKF - Transmission Code

10.05.2 - 10 May 2002

14 - Plant Code

14 15 - Time

001 - Serial Number

On some transmissions, additional code letters are applied at the top of the transmission in the vicinity of the selector lever cable - arrows -.

The code letters of the transmission are also listed on the vehicle data stickers.

If the data plate is not available, a different transmission was accidentally installed or there is no definite way to identify the installed transmission, read the transmission code letters directly from the transmission.

Reading Transmission Code Letters

The transmission code letters are on the transmission at least in two different locations.

Read the transmission code on the top of the transmission near the selector lever cable - arrows -.

If these cannot be read or are on the head, the transmission code letters can also be read under the right transmission mount bracket.

In order to read off code letters under the bracket directly from the transmission, the engine and transmission must be supported. The left transmission mount bracket - A - must be removed. When doing this, it is important to lower the engine/transmission only far enough until the bracket can be slid toward the rear.

After reassembly, the selector lever cable must be adjusted. Refer to => [ Selector Lever Cable, Adjusting ] Adjustments.

CAUTION!
If lowered too far, the pendulum support could be damaged.

- Remove the left transmission mount bracket - A - by lowering the engine and transmission until the bracket can slide back.

A detailed description on how to remove the bracket is not needed here. Refer to "Transmission, Removing".

Short Description

Remove the air filter and battery.

Install the engine support bridge (10-222A) and support the engine/transmission. Do not lift up.

- Remove all the transmission mount/bracket bolts - 1 and 2 - for the bracket - A -.

- Then lower the engine/transmission slightly using the ( 10-222A) spindles until the bracket can be removed.

In most case, 5 turns of the spindle are enough to remove the bracket - arrow -.

Installation is performed in reverse order of removal.

- Replace all left mount bolts

- First install all new bolts by hand

- Install the bracket - A - and the transmission mount/bracket bolts - 1 and 2 -. Refer to => [ Fastener Tightening Specifications ] Mechanical Specifications.

- After installing the bracket, always adjust the selector lever cable. Refer to => [ Selector Lever Cable, Adjusting ] Adjustments.
