Exhaust Manifolds, Catalytic Converters and Attachments Overview

• Disconnect the battery before removing the front exhaust pipes with catalytic converters.

• When installing the exhaust pipes, ensure that the flange connections after the catalytic converters seal tightly. Leaks in this area produce pulsations in the exhaust. This allows outside air to reach the Oxygen Sensor (O2S) behind Three Way Catalytic Converter (TWC) and the oxygen sensor control will be disturbed.

• Replace the self locking nuts.

6 Primary Catalytic Converter

• Installed in the exhaust gas stream of cylinders 1, 2 and 3.

7 Nut

• M10: 40 Nm

• Replace

8 Suspended Mount

9 Transmission Carrier

• Must be removed to remove catalytic converters - item 11 -. Refer to => [ Catalytic Converters ] Catalytic Converters.

10 Bolt

• 25 Nm

• For support of the front catalytic converters at the engine/transmission bracket.

14 Oxygen Sensor (O2S) behind Three Way Catalytic Converter (TWC) (G130)

• 50 Nm

• Installed in the exhaust gas stream of cylinders 1, 2 and 3.

• Grease the threads only with (G 052 112 A3); do not let the (G 052 112 A3) get onto the slits of the oxygen sensor body.

• Use the ring spanner 7-piece set (3337) for removal and installation.

15 Heated Oxygen Sensor (HO2S) (G39)

• 50 Nm

• Installed in the exhaust gas stream of cylinders 1, 2 and 3.

• Grease the threads only with (G 052 112 A3); do not let the (G 052 112 A3) get onto the slits of the oxygen sensor body.

• Use the ring spanner 7-piece set (3337) for removal and installation.

16 HO2S 2 (G108)

• 50 Nm

• Installed in the exhaust gas stream of cylinders 4, 5 and 6.

• Grease the threads only with (G 052 112 A3); do not let the (G 052 112 A3) get onto the slits of the oxygen sensor body.

• Use the ring spanner 7-piece set (3337) for removal and installation.

17 O2S 2 behind TWC (G131)

• 50 Nm

• Installed in the exhaust gas stream of cylinders 4, 5 and 6.

• Grease the threads only with (G 052 112 A3); do not let the (G 052 112 A3) get onto the slits of the oxygen sensor body.

• Use ring spanner 7-piece set (3337) for removal and installation.

18 Primary Catalytic Converter

• Installed in the exhaust gas stream of cylinders 4, 5 and 6.
