Install in reverse order of removal. When doing this note the following:
CAUTION!
When doing any repair work, especially in the engine compartment, pay attention to the following due to clearance issues:
• Route lines of all types (for example, fuel, hydraulic, Evaporative Emission (EVAP), coolant, refrigerant, brake fluid or vacuum) and electrical wires so that the original path is followed.
• To prevent damage to the lines, make sure there is sufficient clearance to all moving or hot components.
- Install new centering sleeves for centering the engine/transmission in the cylinder block.
- Install the intermediate plate at the sealing flange and slide it onto the alignment bushings - arrows -.
With a Manual Transmission
- Install the clutch
With a DSG Transmission
- Install the clutch
- Replace the needle bearing in the crankshaft. Refer to --> [ Crankshaft Needle Bearing, with DSG Transmission Only ] Crankshaft Needle Bearing, with DSG Transmission Only.
• Pay attention to the selector lever cable.
Continuation for All
- When installing the engine/transmission assembly, check for clearance to the subframe as well as to radiator.
- Adjust the engine and transmission mounts. Refer to --> [ Engine and Transmission Mount, Adjusting ] Engine and Transmission Mount, Adjusting.
• Engine and transmission mount tightening specifications. Refer to --> [ Engine and Transmission Mount Assembly Overview ] Service and Repair.

CAUTION!
Do not use a battery charger for starting assistance! There is the risk that the vehicle control modules could be damaged.
- Check the Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) memories of all control modules and erase all DTC entries which may have occurred during assembly.
- Perform a test drive.
• Observe the safety precautions that apply to road tests. Refer to --> [ If special testing equipment is required during road test, note the following: ] Safety Precautions.
