Water Inlet Tube

Removing






- Drain the cooling system. Refer to => [ Cooling System Draining and Filling ] Cooling System Draining and Filling.

- Raise and suitably support the vehicle.

- Remove the accessory drive belt splash shield bolts and shield.

- Loosen and reposition the lower radiator hose clamp at the inlet tube.

- Remove the lower radiator hose from the inlet tube.

- Remove the oil cooler outlet/heater return hose from the inlet tube, if equipped with an engine oil cooler.

- Remove the inlet tube bolts (3 and 4).

- Remove the inlet tube (2).

- Remove and discard the inlet tube O-ring seal (5).

Installing






- Clean the inlet tube O-ring sealing surfaces on the timing cover housing (1) and inlet tube (2).

- Apply Volkswagen genuine parts dielectric grease or equivalent to the O-ring seal (5) before installation.

- Position the new O-ring seal (5) onto inlet tube (2).

- Position the inlet tube and install the bolts (3 and 4). Tighten the bolts to 28 Nm (21 ft lbs).

- Install the oil cooler outlet/heater return hose to the inlet tube, if equipped with engine oil cooler.

- Install the lower radiator hose to the inlet tube.

- Position and tighten the lower radiator hose clamp at the inlet tube.

- Install the drive belt splash shield and bolts.

- Lower the vehicle.

- Fill the cooling system. Refer to => [ Cooling System Draining and Filling ] Cooling System Draining and Filling.
