Engine, Installing
- Install a suitable lifting device to the engine.
- Using the lifting device, remove the engine from the engine stand.
- Position the transmission to the engine and install the transmission upper bolts. Tighten the bolts to 95 Nm (70 ft lbs).
- Install the safety straps so that they securely hold the powertrain assembly to the scissor lift table. Tighten the bolts at the base of powertrain support posts (J-48839) , and verify that the powertrain support posts (J-48839) are engaged in the lifting points.
- Position the powertrain assembly below the vehicle body, and carefully lower the vehicle onto the powertrain assembly.
- Install the left side engine mount bolts (1). Tighten the bolts to 95 Nm (70 ft lbs).
- Install the right engine mount to engine bolts (1). Tighten the bolts to 54 Nm (40 ft lbs).
- Remove the safety straps and lift the vehicle and engine off of the scissor lift table (VAS6131).
- Remove the scissor lift table (VAS6131) from under the engine.
- Install the rear engine mount through bolt (3). Tighten the bolt to 50 Nm (37 ft lbs).
- Install the rear engine mount heat shield (2) and bolts (1). Tighten the bolts to 11 Nm (8 ft lbs).
- Install the left and right drive axles (1).
- Install the right (rear) exhaust manifold. Refer to => [ Right Exhaust Manifold ] Right Exhaust Manifold.
- Install the muffler. Refer to => [ Muffler/Resonator Assembly ] Muffler/Resonator Assembly.
- Install the front engine mount bracket (2) and bolts (1). Tighten the bolts to 100 Nm (74 ft lbs).
• If the flexplate has a tight tolerance (slotted) bolt hole that was marked to the torque converter during removal, realign the marked holes.
- Install the flexplate to torque converter bolts (1). Tighten the bolts to 88 Nm (65 ft lbs).
- Install the torque converter access cover (2) and bolt (3). Tighten the bolt to 10 Nm (89 in lbs).
- Install the cross under pipe bracket (4) and bolts (2). Tighten bolts to 28 Nm (21 ft lbs).
- Install the remaining transmission lower bolts (2). Tighten the bolts to 95 Nm (70 ft lbs).
- Install the cross under pipe. Refer to => [ Exhaust Cross under Pipe ] Exhaust Cross under Pipe.
- Install the crossmember (3), and bolts (1 and 2).
- Tighten the front bolt (2) to 108 Nm (80 ft lbs) and tighten the rear bolts (1) to 55 Nm (41 ft lbs).
- Install the front engine mount through bolt (1). Tighten the bolt to 54 Nm (40 ft lbs).
- Install the battery cable (2) and nut (3) to the starter solenoid stud (1). Tighten the nut to 14 Nm (10 ft lbs).
- Connect the wiring harness electrical connector (4) to starter solenoid.
- Install the left (front) exhaust manifold. Refer to => [ Left Exhaust Manifold ] Left Exhaust Manifold.
- Install the oil dipstick tube, and install oil dipstick tube bolt (1).
- Position the A/C compressor to the engine. Install the bolt (2) and nuts (3) hand tight.
- Tighten the bolt (2) and nuts (3) to 23 Nm (17 ft lbs) in the following sequence:
• Upper nut
• Lower nut
• Rear bolt
- Connect the wiring harness electrical connector (1) to the oil pressure sensor.
- Connect the engine oil cooler line (7) to the engine oil cooler (3).
- Install the radiator lower hose (1) to the radiator.
- Position the radiator lower hose (1) clamp at the radiator.
- Connect the wiring harness electrical connector (2) and the inline harness (1) connector to the powertrain control module.
- Position the ground strap and install the ground strap bolt (2).
- Install the oil filter/oil cooler splash shield and the left front wheelhouse liner..
- Install the front tires and wheels.
- Connect the shift cable to the bracket.
- Connect the shift cable (1) to the transaxle manual valve lever (2).
- Connect the oil cooler lines (1) to the transmission.
- Connect the heater hoses (1) and (2).
- Install the front heater line bracket bolt (1).
- Install the heater and power steering hose bracket bolts (2) to the left engine mount and transmission bellhousing.
- Install the rear engine mount bracket bolts (1). Tighten the bolts to 100 Nm (74 ft lbs).
- Connect the following wiring harness electrical connectors:
• Transfer shaft speed sensor (1).
• Output speed sensor (2).
- Connect the wiring harness retainer (1) to the transmission shift bracket.
- Connect the wiring harness electrical connector (1) to the transmission.
- Connect the following wiring harness electrical connectors:
• Input shaft speed sensor (1).
• Crankshaft position sensor (2).
• Bank 1 sensor 1 O2 sensor (4).
• Bank 1 sensor 2 O2 sensor (3).
- Install the radiator upper hose (1) to the engine.
- Position the radiator upper hose (1) clamp to the engine.
- Connect the EVAP purge line (1) and the brake booster vacuum hose (2) to the upper intake manifold.
- Connect the fuel supply line quick connect fitting (1) to the fuel rail (2).
- Install the radiator lower hose (2) to the engine.
- Position the radiator lower hose (2) clamp at the engine.
- Position the power steering pump (2) to the bracket.
- Install the power steering pump bolts (3) through the pulley (not shown in figure). Tighten the bolts to 23 Nm (17 ft lbs).
- Connect the wiring harness electrical connector (1) to the power steering pump.
- Disconnect the following wiring harness electrical connectors:
• Evaporative emission purge solenoid (1).
• Air conditioning pressure transducer (2).
- Install the power steering line bracket bolts (1 and 2).
- Install the generator (1).
- Install the accessory drive belt (1). Refer to => [ Accessory Drive Belt ] Accessory Drive Belt.
- Install the cooling fan assembly.
- Connect the wiring harness electrical connectors (1) and (2) to the cooling fans.
- Install the air filter housing (6). Refer to => [ Air Cleaner Housing ] Air Cleaner Housing.
- Install the coolant recovery reservoir (2), and connect the coolant overflow line (1) at the radiator fill cap.
- Fill the cooling system. Refer to => [ Cooling System Draining and Filling ] Cooling System Draining and Filling.
- Install the battery tray (1) and bolts.
- Connect the wiring harness retainer (2) to the battery tray.
- Connect the positive (1) and negative (3) battery cables.
- Start the engine and inspect for leaks. Verify that the engine is operating normally.
- Install the engine cover (1).
