Front Timing Belt Cover
Removing
- Relieve the fuel system pressure. Refer to => [ Fuel System Pressure Release Procedure ] Service and Repair.
- Disconnect the negative battery cable.
- Raise and suitably support the vehicle.
- Remove the accessory drive belt tensioner. Refer to => [ Accessory Drive Belt Tensioner ] Accessory Drive Belt Tensioner.
- Remove the power steering pump bolts (3) and reposition the pump (2). (pulley not shown for clarity).
- Remove the vibration damper. Refer to => [ Vibration Damper ] Service and Repair.
- Remove the lower front timing belt cover bolts and cover (2).
- Lower the vehicle.
- Support the engine with a floor jack.
- Remove the air cleaner housing. Refer to => [ Air Cleaner Housing ] Air Cleaner Housing.
- Remove the front engine mount. Refer to => [ Front Engine Mount ] Front Engine Mount.
- Disconnect the fuel line quick connect fitting (1) from the fuel rail (2). Refer to => [ Quick Connect Fitting Disconnecting and Connecting ] Service and Repair.
- Remove the upper front timing belt cover bolts and cover (1).
Installing
• The timing cover bolts and both holes to the engine block must be thoroughly cleaned and free of oil residue before assembly. In addition, add thread sealant to the timing cover bolts that mount to the oil pump. Refer to => [ Oil Pump ] Removal and Replacement.
- Install the upper front timing belt cover (1) and bolts.
- Connect fuel line quick connect fitting (1) to the fuel rail (2).
- Install the front engine mount. Refer to => [ Front Engine Mount ] Front Engine Mount.
- Install the air cleaner housing. Refer to => [ Air Cleaner Housing ] Air Cleaner Housing.
- Remove the floor jack and raise the vehicle.
- Install the vibration damper. Refer to => [ Vibration Damper ] Service and Repair.
- Position the power steering pump (2) to the bracket (1) and install the bolts (3). Tighten the bolts to 23 Nm (17 ft lbs).
- Install accessory drive belt tensioner. Refer to => [ Accessory Drive Belt Tensioner ] Accessory Drive Belt Tensioner.
- Lower the vehicle.
- Connect the negative battery cable.
