Towing / Trailer System: Description and Operation
Towing Recognition Control Module (J345)
The towing recognition control module - arrow - is located behind the left rear side trim in the luggage compartment.

General Description
• Use the Power outlet tester (V.A.G 1537/A) or (VAS 5800) to test the control module. Refer to=> [ Towing Recognition Control Module (J345) Output Diagnostic Test Mode ] Towing Recognition Control Module (J345) Output Diagnostic Test Mode.
On the basis of a performance decrease of at least 5 W, the towing recognition control module detects * "trailer towing mode" and sends this information to diverse control modules via the CAN bus.
The towing recognition control module (J345) is supplied with information (light control) from the Vehicle electrical system control module (J519) via the CAN data bus.
* At least the turn signal or parking lamp must be switched on to detect "use of trailer".
DTC Recognition and Display
The towing recognition control module is equipped with on board diagnostic capabilities which facilitate fault finding.
For fault finding, use the Vehicle diagnosis, testing and information system (VAS 5051B) in the "Guided fault finding" operating mode.
