Fuel Tank and Attachments Overview






1 Fuel Filler Door Unit

• With a rubber cup.

2 Cap

3 Bolt

4 Fuel Flap Lock

5 Ground Connection

• For discharging electrostatic charge.

• Installed position, refer to => [ Installed Position of the Ground (GND) Connection ].

• Make sure connections are securely seated and wiring is fastened with the collar bolt for fuel filler tube.

6 Bolt

• 8 Nm + 90° (1/4) additional turn.

• Always replace.

• Quantity: 2

7 Fuel Filler Tube

8 Fuel Tank

• Support the fuel tank using the engine-/gearbox jack (V.A.G 1383 A).

• Draining the fuel tank, refer to => [ Fuel Tank, Draining ] Procedures.

• Removing and installing, refer to => [ Fuel Tank ] Fuel Tank.

9 Heat Shield

10 Nut

• 2.5 Nm

11 Bolt

• 20 Nm + 90° (1/4) additional turn.

• Always replace.

• Quantity: 4

12 Tensioning Strap

• Pay attention to the installed position.

• Make sure it is secure.

• Only use bolts with loose washers to secure the tensioning straps. The straps could twist when the bolts are tightened if other bolts are used.

13 Fuel Lines

• For the correct allocation, refer to => [ Fuel Delivery Unit Overview ] Fuel Delivery Unit Overview.

14 Seal

• Replace

• Install the seal into the fuel tank opening dry.

• Lubricate with fuel only when installing the flange.

15 Fuel Delivery Unit

• Removing and installing, refer to => [ Fuel Delivery Unit ] Fuel Delivery Unit.

• Fuel pump, checking. Refer to => [ Transfer Fuel Pump (G6), Checking ] Testing and Inspection.

• Pay attention to the installed position on the fuel tank. Refer to => [ Installed Position of the Sensor Flange on the Fuel Tank ].

• With the fuel level sensor (G).

• Fuel level sensor removing and installing. Refer to => [ Fuel Level Sensor (G) ] Service and Repair.

• Clean the screen if it is dirty.

16 Lock Ring

• 110 Nm

• Use the wrench (T10202) for removal and installation.

• Make sure it is secure.

Installed Position of the Sensor Flange on the Fuel Tank





The - arrow - indicates the direction of travel.

The tab - 2 - on the flange must lie between tabs - 1 and 3 - on the fuel tank.

Installed Position of the Ground (GND) Connection





- Route the ground connection as illustrated.

- Attach the ground connection contact - 4 - to the hole in the fuel tank - 3 - and then install the spacer - 5 -.

- Make sure the ground connection terminal - 1 - is securely fastened to the metal ring - 2 - on the fuel filler tube.

- Tighten the ground connection contact to the collar bolt - arrow - on the fuel filler tube.






After installing, check the electrical connection on the fuel filler neck metal ring to an empty spot on the body using an Ohm meter.
